Well, first of all I must say a big well done to everyone that entered the comp this month - the standard of all the entries was very high indeed , and I had an extremely difficult time making my choices . There were some excellent pictures, technically composed and otherwise, and some nice interpretations of the theme.

So.......

In third place, there is a tie ....

between my favourite car related pic - fergusd's lotus.

(I couldn't quite put my finger on it but I really liked the PS effects, and the almost abstract quality of the image)

and meagain's offering, which was also my wife's overall favourite

However, both the following pictures managed, in my mind, to capture the theme in several ways, and hence their high placement:-

In second place, chris.mapey's beach hut.

This is a very evocative picture. A weathered (and possibly wintering) hut, no more than a shed, containing long forgotten junk; but offering a window which reflects on summer days at the beach when the hut, swept and alive, might have hosted the family outing. I liked this one a lot. (I do like humanising inanimate objects!).

And my first place is joust's sunglasses

Again, to me this wasn't so much as a cleverly angled shot, but represented adulthood reflecting on childhood, age on youth, father on son. It's hoped that everyone looks back on their childhood with tinted glasses, and as a new father, this one summed it up for me.

Congratulations to everyone once again. Well done Joust! Roll on this month's comp.

Gosh!

What can I say!

I really didn't expect to win given the stunning competition there was this month, including some cracking shots from some of the people that I really look up to.

To give you some background on the shot, it was taken this summer in the butterfly park in Niagra. The adult is my better half, Nick, and the child is one of our friends kids with whos parents we were staying with in Niagra on the Lake.

Nick was sitting on a bench, wearing very cheap, very shiny, orange tinted glasses from Next and Cameron, the kid, was running around. He noticed that he could see himself in Nick's glasses and kept on running away and back and pulling faces in them. I was luckly at the other end of the bench from Nick, had the camera out, and shot about 15 photos, of which that one is the best.

It was one of those complete "pure luck" moments. A good crop and a simple desaturate to me highlighted the bit of stubble on Nicks face, the facial lines, and really brought out the cheekyness of Cameron's face.

I'm going to now have a lie down and rest given I've won, and have a think about the theme for this month.

I am truely humbled - thank you.

Thanks for the kind words & placing me that high

I'm pleased to be "first of the losers"(c) Ron Dennis 1988 up against such excellent work.

Top shot Joust, and as Mrs F says above, I'm looking forward to next month's topic.

Cool, chuffed, abstracty was the idea ;-)

Just put that pic in over a glass of red as I'd put nothing else in . . .

Pic was GIMP'd (use GIMP when in linux mode), I forget what I did to it, glass of red again . . . perhaps slight cartoon filter ?

We'd driven from Isola to Monaco, it was roasting, too hot and too busy in Monaco . . . so we did a lap of the circuit (as well as we could) turned around and headed back into the cool and twisty mountain roads north, fantastic day looking back on it ;-)
