EU Directove 1994/44/EC

http://tinyurl.com/9ba2l

EU Directive 1994/44/EC said:

Time limits

1. The seller shall be held liable under Article 3 where the lack of conformity becomes apparent within two years as from delivery of the goods. If, under national legislation, the rights laid down in Article 3(2) are subject to a limitation period, that period shall not expire within a period of two years from the time of delivery.

So it is my understanding that all goods sold in the EEC must have a 2 year guarantee....

If I am correct what the hell are places like Dixons, PC World etc. doing selling extended waranties at extortionate prices?? Why isn't this information widely known to the public??

I think you'll find this is talking about product conformity rather than warranty periods. In other words does the product conform to it's description and is if fit for the purpose it was intended.
