Two friends have independently advised today that their connection is 'suddenly' at 10Mb! This is in the Luton and Biggleswade areas, so must have bee switched on for December?

I've yet to try mine, but will when I get home

If you're a 3MB customer then yes, it'll be switched on by the end of the year... If you're 1MB or 2MB, then you'll have to wait for the 3MB to be upgraded first. All NTL cable will be 'up to 10MB' by the end of 2006

Yes, sorry, meant to say only for existing 3Mb customers!

Anyone see the Gadget Show the other day on Five? Report about South Korea, and one man interviewed had a 100mb line at home...

Quick download speeds, but I bet your upload will still be firmly anchored to 256k.

I am pleased to say you are wrong - upload speed has been increased to 512k

Now tested and working at home!

Unfortunately I'm in an area where my exchange won't be upgraded for a while. I know someone who has 24Meg broadband for £15 a month and that just through a BT line, not through a cable provider.

Shortly I will have 10MB broadband, cable TV and Phone, all for £10 a month! But then I do work for Telewest so maybe that's why. Tee Hee Aparently NW will have 10MB switched on this month. Many other Telewest areas already are enabled. Upload speed will be 384kb so not that great but better than 256 anyway.

How often do you actually get the full constant 10MB/sec?

I'm surprised the servers will let you see that kind of bandwidth.. would've thought it was more for doing multiple concurrent downloads etc. ?

Is browsing any quicker?

Now this is frustrating, i was on the 'silver' service for a while and it has been speeded up as appropriate through the years to the 2MB service i have now. All of a sudden the 'gold' service has been upgraded from 3MB to 10MB. When i contacted NTL to cancel my TV and phone package i enquired as to when the 2MB service will be upgraded in relation to the 3MB service and was told it wont be done until late 2006 or even 2007! WTF! i think its only fair that the lower services should be upgraded in relation to the top service....

I get the full speed on usenet, irc, bittorrent & ftp dumps, the only website that has given me that type of speed (10mb) is Yahoo Games ( http://videogames.yahoo.com ) most sites seem to only push around 600kb/s tops.

I would say browsing is faster, pages seem to load almost instantly.

Got my NTL 10MB this week, seems pretty good, speed checks rarely show repetative 10mb though.
