Chim 500 tickover cutout

When I pull up at a junction, every now and then the engine revs suddenly drop to the point when the engine cuts out altogether. The engine re-starts no problem. This may happen only once or twice on a journey, the rest of the time there is not a problem. The battery has been replaced and ht leads checked. The gizmo that regulates tickover has been checked.

I had a very similar fault on my 450 Chim: the cutout was completely random and the engine would restart and run flawlessly each time. I also had random idle hunting (200rpm <-> 2000rpm).

It was found that the ECU contacts were very dirty and corroded. A good clean and (touch wood) I've not seen this problem again.

When I've had to put normal (95RON) unleaded in it, my 450 does exactly that.

thanks for the feed back. Having seen replies to similar tickover hunting problem I will have a look at the rotor arm.

I have the same problem on my 400. Recently fitted new distributor cap and rotor arm so ruling that one out.

Will have a look at the ECU contacts.

Strangely, mine doesn't cut out when cold, nor when the engine is fully warmed up, but only between the first 3 to 15 minutes of a drive. After that it is fine
