Alloy/tyre size help needed!!

What size tyre should I put on the 7 spoke Griff 500 alloys I have? They are going on a 4.3 Griff that is currently sitting on;

205/50 zr15 (F)
225/50 zr16 (R) OZ split rims

or should I put on the rubber size that is on non-power assisted early Griff 500's?

225/50 zr15 (F)
235/50 zr16 (R) is that right?

First principles would tell me that you should choose the tyres to match the wheels - ie those of a 500. A PAS car has wider fronts.

If you go with the later spec 500 sizes, you would use:

Front: 205/55R15 (non PAS)
or: 225/50/R15 (pas)

Rear: 245/45R16

If the tyres are too wide they twist and start to lift the corner of the tread under heavy cornering. I'd say with S02s that 205 is spot on for the front 7" rims, and 225 is right for the rear 7.5" rims. You can stretch the wider tyres on but I found the narrower tyres gave more grip and were consistently better under heavy cornering.

See GreenV8S regarding tyre widths (especially in winter) and note that the front tyres for your car were originally on 55 profile (ie 205/55ZR15 as Pete mentioned.)
