..What reasons are there for having a car inspected by the factory if it's passed all the SVA requirements ?

Not strictly required at all. Just peace of mind.

If you're a first time builder it would be wise to take up the offer as it can be used in the marketing if you ever decide to sell it on. Savvy buyers tend to negotiate harder if they think a discount is available for a first time build. A factory approval should quell that sort of tactic.

I'd say it would be wise even if its a 2nd/3rd/whatever build incase something was missed. Something called "Cognitive dissonance" makes human beans think they've done something but in reality you may not have (i.e. loose bolts), a second pair of eyes/spanners may spot it.

I wonder if they would do a certificate of build quality? a sort of ultima certificate of approval.

I spoke to the factory on this subject last week and they confirmed what Stig has said.

As my car has passed the SVA it's just a look over it for peace of mind.

If I'm going to do a 200 mile round trip I hope it has more "value" than that. Still if it gets there in one piece there's the proof of the pudding.

I can only suggest that there would be nothing better than having the Ultima Factory crew look over the car, since they build more Ultimas than anyone.

All of us in the US share a lot of emails, phone calls, photos, etc, to solve problems and answer questions. That's fine, but again, I'd easily pay a premium to have Ted or Richard look over my Ultima and give me their critique.

I don't know, you could try calling the factory to check if they have inspected a car you're interested in, they may have a record of it but I'm just guessing.

The SVA is very thorough but having it inspected by the factory by the actual creators would be (in my view) quite valuable. It would be nice to know how they check it over, quick browse or detailed inspection? someone who has been the through process should be able to tell us whats involved, anyone?

It should say on the invoice from the factory. Mine does "full safety check: no charge"

I bought my car part built, the factory had it back once it had been SVA'd to do the safety check at no cost, they have a check list three or four pages long covering all parts of the car, once they had finished the check there were a few issues needed sorting which they can put right (you pay for time and part's but they do quote before) or you can do them yourself, I was pleased with the check and it does give pice of mind after all these cars are quick.

For one thing every significant fixing will have a painted line on it to indicate that the inspector has checked the torque. Each of the inspectors has his own colour.
