Everytime you post you cause data to be transferred. To transfer data from the webserver to your client it costs money. It not the same as diskspace required to support a database (which is minimal).

Yeah. Most advertising schemes go through a counter so they may get a percentage of the final sale (if one is made) or simply earn money by the number of clients that go through the link. On big sites like PH, some firms may pay a fee to have advertising space
