Opinions on buying a 964 C2,what are they like to live with

Ok my friend has a 1988 911 & used to have 993 RSR before it was written off, he keeps on telling me i should convert to Porsche ownership as they are such a good drivers car & excellent build quality along with performance & looks. I have always liked the look of all of the 911 models but have always thought they were too expensive for me in the past.

After looking at different models i have decided that the best one for me would be a 964 C2, classic 911 is too old & basic inside for me & i can't afford a decent 993.

What are the ( not tiptronic ) 964 C2's really like performance wise, on paper its about 5.1 0-60 0-100 in 12.2 or so & quarter mile in 13.6 @ 106, are these figures conservative ?
What is the handling like ?

Are they reliable, i dont want to be spending all the time apart from usual servicing & consumables.

What are the servicing costs & how often are they serviced.

Do they hold their value ?

I used to have a M3 E36 which was a very good car and never gave any trouble whatsoever but was quite a dull drive, the performance figs on paper look similar to a 964 c2 but a M3 is only 7k or so ! Surely a 964 is quicker than a M3 evo !
For the last 3 yrs i have had a old Sierra Cosworth which i absoultely love , it has all the right bits ,big brakes,coilovers & genuine 360 bhp 337lb it is time to change. I know a 964 is in a different league quality wise but will it really be any quicker than what i have at the moment.

It will only be used as a toy & a handfull of trackdays every year.

My 964 had quite a lot of niggly '£100 problems' but if you buy carefully and have a serious PPI done you should be all right.

Never a dull drive! I'm still learning mine after 3 years.

The performance figures you quoted are the best you are likely to achieve, about 5.4 secs to 60 is the norm.

If you budget more than £1000 pa for maintenance (not including consumables like brakes and tyres) then you should be OK, although buy a duffer and it could cost you ££££££ to put right.

Love mine to bits, I only drive at weekends, so if you're like me maintenance is less than 500/year. I have however spent far more than that on goodies etc.......suspension mods.seats. paintwork.......

a PPI is a given, buy with your head not your heart, great fun....went to Le Mans last year 800+ miles, never missed a beat.

I loved every minute of owning mine and wish i'd never sold it. At the time two 964 variants would have been impossible financially. Now though I'd swap my Boxster for one no problem (not that i am not more than happy with the Box).
