what do think this is....!

Every time I turn the key I hear a loud CLICK... and the engine will not start. Its only just happened, it not related to the hot start issues as the car is cold. I have done the rocking of the car in gear to try and unstick the starter motor but to no benefit...!

not being funny but Has the battery got enough charge?

If it hasn`t it might have enough power to throw the solinoid but not turn the engine!

Are you a little overweight? If so you might want to check that Harry the tortoise hasn't escaped and decided to hibernate under the car by the exhaust?

Had this happen on my Merc SLK320, thought fuel pump gone etc but Friendly RAC man showed it was battery as it needed a horendous amperage to turn the thing over and yet all the lights worked and the roof went up and down. Well worth checking

I have the same thing at times. Go to the car, hot or cold, turn the key and "click" but no starter. Turn off, turn back on and away the starter goes. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 “click” attempts but it always (so far!) eventually turns over and starts. This rules out fuses etc. as the car goes on to start. The battery is OK as on some occasions (when the car has been sitting for a while) it’s taken a little while to fire and the engine turn over hasn’t slowed during this time. Anyone any ideas?

Sounds like a dodgy starter motor connection to me, or insufficient juice to turn the engine... surely the click you can hear is the solenoid.

it was one of the leads to the starter had come off...!
