Making a vent for the driver's right hand
Discussion
I'm thinking of finding a way to create an air-con blown vent to the right hand side of the steering column. On long journeys I find my right hand gets a bit clammy and I hold it on my lap to catch the aircon jetstream. I'm going to have a closer look tomorrow and see if I get get a T-piece in the ducting to the vent on the LHS of the steering column, wap a length of ducting over/under the column and tie it into place near the mirror switches (In the ideal world I'd like to move that little control panel and stick a vent in its place).
My aircon works fine, its just I like a flow of air over my hands as they get very hot.
Has anyone done anything like this? Any suggestions?

Hi Trefor
I have been annoyed by this bit of bad design ever since we had the car, which is coming up to nearly three years, If you find a way of sorting it out, please let me know.
There were times when i nealy robbed the hose off the wifes hoover...Now there's an idea i hear you cry!!
Surely it can't be to much trouble for TVR to knock something together, or should i say glue together?
Dave.
Nice pic in your profile by the way!!

Trefor,
Thought about this myself, not just for keeping hands hot or cold, but demisting the window as well?
I wondered if the mirror switch from a tuscan would fit into the door pocket hole and the alarm socket could be mounted on the steering colunm and then the appature is vacant. Just need the alloy sleeve, vent and trunking to complete.

Practical Performance Car this month (the one with the Mk1 Essie on the front) includes a catalogue from a kit car parts supplier - I noticed various vent hose gubbins - rummage - here:
www.nfauto.co.uk/dash_vents.htm
www.nfauto.co.uk/ducthose.htm
and I've seen T pieces somewhere on that site too. Should be enough bits to do the job there, just need to go take a closer look and see if it is possible to get at the hose to cut it to insert a T/Y piece.

Er, am I the only one then who doesnt use their air-con?
You won't need it in the winter, but come the hot summer you will, esp if you have a dark coloured interior.
Don't forget you should run it for 5 minutes or so every few weeks to keep the system in good shape for when you really need it.
Also remember, it helps with demisting on really soggy days.

Aye, the 5mins every so often is the only time I put it on.
I guess we shall see about how effective the cold air is in mid summer!

I will never work out why the designers insisted in not having the warm air come through the middle vents too!
Yup, that's my pet hate too![]()
DJC - I definitely find the a/c useful if not essential in the winter for demisting.
You see I dont get that either. Ive tried that and er well, it doesnt put hot air out any faster than just having the heater on!
Am I missing something?
Chatting about the A/C is a bit off topic but...
My aircon never really worked from day 1.
All it ever did was produce slighty cooler air at speed.
So during the summer I took it to Chis Neil but it took ages to get the new parts needed (compressor and pump me thinks).
Now, erm, IT IS COLD! (Many thanks to Chris Neil)
You can go the options (Number 5 - un-named I think) and it will give you all the temp stats including o/s air temp, hot air temp and cold air temp.
Now it reads 3c cold air on the move and at standstill it reads 6c.
