70 - 300 ED (£239 from Microglobe). It's a damn fine lens.

Wot e sed! But I'd also offer a different view for consideration.
I guess you'd benefit from a little longer reach from time to time. Traditionally 85-135 is "portrait" range and you're only at the bottom end with the (equivalent of) your zoom range.
Think also whether you want some close up capability.
Something like a Tamron 90mm Macro would give you a good compromise between close up, selective landscape, general portrait and a bit closer for the kiddies at play shots.....
Gives you a little more aperture for lower light and is generally easier to get on with than a longer telephoto. Don't get me wrong, it's not impossibly difficult, but you start having to learn to develop your technique when you bolt several hundred mm on the front end
Then again, you don't necessarily need 300mm to get to photo the kids.
It's still a compromise, but would give you a bit of everything. Depends what your priorities are.
