Well, I seem to make my wife laugh (and kids), when I open up and promptly throw straight away in the bin bag containing the rest of the rubbish, pointless and totally crappy 'no thought gone into it whatsoever, but hey, it makes up the numbers - job done' presents bought from equally pointless online shops like this;
I get annoyed because Chan spends HOURS looking for the perfectly appropriate gift for the right people, and year upon year, no matter what she says, we get the same pointless 'gimmick' fodder which is of no use whatsoever!
Anyway, just off to watch Bad Santa!

P.S. I'd like the belts done prior to Xmas day as a little stocking filler.

Not only do I hate the event itself, this shopping mallarky is hideous. No idea of what to buy for half of the people I have to buy for. Any pointers as to xmas present idea websites?
I'm with you, best solution I've found to date is buy nothing, expect nothing.
As for time off work, well I'd rather be at work and have an extra week in the summer when I could actually do somthing with the time.
Jahovah!

Nah no religeous input whatsoever, probably see it differently if I had kids, but I don't, so all I see is a load of people getting stuff they didn't want or need, spending money they could ill afford or could spend elswhere, on stuff they could use, and making pigs of themselves on food and booze.
I hate shopping at the best of times, but there is no way I'm going to spend my time queing, sitting in traffic jams to get to some god forsaken out of town retail park, to find there's nowhere to park. Just so I can get shoved and pushed around, and when I finally get to the shop, it dosen't have what I wanted in the first place.
Now don't get me started on the January sales
Humbug!

We went to a shopping centre just outside of Bristol this morning and sat in the inside lane of the motorway for 30 minutes before reaching the slip road. It was unbelievable.
That wouldn't be Cribbs Causeway, would it? That's my wife's favorite haunt for pressie buying too! (she goes with her sister, her sister's boyfriend and me seem to have a massive allergy to places like that, bit like vampires and garlic! lol (The worst allergic reaction is Ikea, though!
)You don't have to give in to all the spending crap so touted by all the commercialization. Use it as a time to visit friends, hang out, eat rich food. Our family puts all the names in a pot and draws names, with a monetary limit on the amount for the gift, and everyone has to give a list of things they want/need. Our limit (and keep in mind that things are much, much cheaper in the US) is $25-$30. So, it's just small stuff anyway. Most of us just ask for things we need, so it's sort of like a holiday of doing favors for each other. Much less pressure than having to buy so much stuff. This year, I think we are going to plant a new tangerine tree in the yard as a surprise for Dad.
Personally, I find shopping very stressful ; trying to look for something, and weaving through so many people. It's much easier to get things on line. I've seen stories of people getting trampled in stores in the post Thanksgiving sales. This is really sad. They don't see how they've been manipulated by all the hyped-up expectation by someone who's trying to make a profit. People need to realize that they simply don't need so much "stuff" to be happy.

I agree on the work front. Unfortunately I have little option on the present front as my brothers won't stop having children.

Blimey, I must be specially fortunate then. I actually like my family and friends.
We don't spend a lot any more, but I love picking out things to buy people that will make them smile. No kids in this house, but we have a big
off tree with loads of lights.
We've started already - if anyone's coming round we roast chestnuts, get sausage rolls and mince pies out.
Anyway, I'd rather have Mrs Fish as a friend than Chris Watton. Chris, I can't imagine what it teaches your kids, to watch you being so rude to your friends just because you don't think they got you a good enough present.
