How do I uprate this phone,
to capture video,
as well as play it.
Had a look through search, as I'm certain the site, was
earlier mentioned here in the year
but no joy yet

its in the hackers bible. you will need to get P2Kman and Mobile phone tools software.

Bear in mind that the new V3 comes out 1Q of 2006 and it has extended/removable memory and a video recorder installed.

Flashing the phone WILL invalidate any insurance and can bugger up the phone if it goes wrong.

I did it to a pink one a couple of days ago.

Got everything from here

www.motox.us/

and this

http://theunit.poeticfolly.com/index.html

And detailed instructions on how to do it

www.mobiledia.com/forum/topic35106.html

The only sticking point was downloading motorola PST tools. I ended up googling for it and you'll find it eventually (i didn't save the link).

It's one of those things, easy when you know how; Impossible if you don't.

Good luck & be prepared for it being a bit of a PITA.

There are two new V3's coming out - the first is the V3i which includes a 1.2 megapixel camera, video capture and playback and retains the metal shell.

The second is the V3X which is the 3G version with a 2 megapixel camera and - gasp! - a PLASTIC BODY!

I've just bought a SLVR, which is a V3 except without a clamshell and video recorder - shame the camera is still bloody 640x480 VGA though

Well, it is possible to flash it to enable video recording, but it looks a bit complicated to me and the thing to remember also is that the flash files are not official.

Then there's this...

http://direct.motorola.com/eng/softwareupdate.asp?co

It's not active yet but I think I'm going to wait until it is.

If you want more megapixies on your V3 camera though the only option is to upgrade to the V3i or V3X.

I would think it would be easy once that Motorola support site is up and running. At least then any patches will be official and should be easy to install.

Well posting the occasional pic,
snapped on the phone, for the benefit of all here,

might be enhanced with a few extra pixels

As has been said before, all the bits are available on the net - if you are struggling, drop me an email & I'll see if I can find them, as I downloaded them earlier this year.

I suspect this may be beyond my abilities,
but thanks for the offer mate.

Can see the phone in the post for repair, and me without it,
its a bit to important to my work for that,
and the benefits woulden't really outweigh sadly
