hi

thinking about driving to rome for new year, any routes you recommend, any you dont. Not to bothered on how quick it is,would rather
go on some nice driving roads than stayin on motorway all day. Any good places to stop over night to split journey in half.

Cheers for any info

As always the Route Napolean from Grenoble to Nice has to be considered.

The Autostrada from Nice to Genoa has to be tried - it's nuts

Obviously the Alpine passes are a must! We broke the journey to Rome up in several places...Florence is a good stopover. If you want a posh stop try Villa La Massa just outside Florence. (I spent £150 there just on the peanuts you get with your beer! )

Er I wouldn't try the St Bernard pass over new year unless you have a snow plough.

Why not down to nice then along the coastal strada, you'll pass by Genoa on the way, worth a look, then you can head down the West coast past the La Spezia (lovely coastline ) take the A15 down towards Pisa and Florence ( if you're interested ) then down to Roma on the A1.

Oh and on the way back would you mind picking up some Parmesan for me?

But wait untill you cross into Italy before you play, the French police have bike's and radar and use it, but half a mile away on the road into Nice you'll get "jammed" at the traffic light's and they are no where to be seen. Now where have we heard that one before?
