Hi all, Have taken the engine to bits now. On the cylinder head bolts there is a thread locking compound which needs to be soaked in petrol. Is this anything special or can I use LOCTITE THREADLOCKER ( the blue stuff ) when I come to reassemble.
Some other bad news.........as you know I have taken the engine out to do some work ready for next years runs, only to find out that I am being made redundant in time for xmas.

Sorry to hear about your news - same thing happened to me in Jan. (after 29 yrs). Anyway, I wouldn't bother cleaning the bolts. Not only were some stretch type bolts, but it is highly recommended to refit the heads using studs and nuts. On my 14 bolt heads the outer row that was later deleted completely in production are simply not used at all, although they're drilled/tapped. I've had no probs for over 4 yrs.

Back to the bolts, assuming v8, I reused mine. No problems 30,000 miles on.

I thing the threadlock I used was reddish.
