Cruise control in yon 993tt?

Although a sin to even contemplate such scandalous trifles, I would like this in the old beetle.

Although somoene at the local OPC told me ages ago that such things weren't retro fittable, this view has been countered elsewhere, insofar as so long as you can get the relevant bits and bobs, the loom exists to enable persons of the inner circle to do the biz.

Any info on what the hell I need and where you might get things?

I can only keep the anvil flat for so long!

I'm sure the wiring is ready in all 993s for this as usual with most electrical options.

I know the chaps at Amd fit after market systems to VW Audi,,,,I am sure the talented MR Fearns will be able to conjure something up ( I know he is no longer at AMD)

But DeR, another accesory is extra weight, have you considered balancing this out with further BHP gains????


I think it is just a case of adding an extra indicator stalk and an extra ecu....The whole thing will probably cost a few hundred notes including Porsche owners price weighting.

Rob Mugglestone at total911 retro fitted cruise to his 964. I guess it's much the same on a 993. Drop him an email at [e-mail]

Simon, i have the cruise in my car - it's opposite the OBC stalk (so you end up with two on the left and two on the right, the lower right one being cruise).
I suspect the stalk is reasonably easy to fit, and i also suspect it just plugs in to the existing wiring loom. As to what else may be required, i would imagine the wiring is in place for the throttle actuator but the actuator itself may be missing. Again, something that should be easy to retrofit.
Have you asked AF? It seems likely i'll be back there on Saturday (clutch) so he could always look at my car next to yours and compare...

I am sure he will be able to source the neccesary stalk & brain.... with gbp/eur close to 1.48 it shouldn't hurt too much either.

There might be a bit more to than has been mentioned above, control stalk, ECU and throttle actuator. I have the cruise control on mine and the system also has a microswitch on the clutch. This allows you to change gear with the cruise control engaged, i.e. it tells the cruise control that you've started depressing the clutch so that it doesn't rev the bollox off the engine trying to maintain speed! Kind of pointless really, as I only really use the CC when in 6th on the motorway.

It's a great licence protector for long journeys. Without it I find it far too easy to settle down to 130 mph cruising as at that speed the engine is just getting into its stride in 6th. God protect me from french prisons...

Good point, i use 5th for 50mph motorway roadworks and when i get back to national limit i change to 6th with cruise still engaged and then use the stalk to accelerate. It is *clutch aware* for sure.

You could always get Merc to fit one of their "intelligent" cruise control systems, as recently demonstrated to the worlds press. Just don't drive though a steel framed building. Or let a journalist drive your car.
