Best way to sell
Discussion
Sorry if this topic has been done before, but I am stumped and need advice. I have tried PH classifieds, Autotrader, Top Marques and Ebay (for publicity rather than a sell, I'm not giving it away!). I have also been in touch with James Agger but having sent them emails and phone calls, have not heard back from them (I appreciate they are busy). The car has been on sale for a couple of months now. Is it really that much of a buyers market??
I could understand if the car was a CAT D or a dog, but I have put a lot into the car and have to sell to fund a new property purchase.
Has anyone got any ideas on the best way to sell a TVR or anyone who buys privately? Cheers

Wrong time of year now really. A couple of months back may have been ok but you'll struggle to shift anything now.
I can't even give away a 518 BMW, only after £500!
Your car does look clean, you're strecthing into 4.5 money at that price and maybe that has something to do with it? Not there's anything wrong with the 4.2's.

I did try to sell it in august but had no joy then either. I REALLY have to move now though otherwise the missus is going to kill me. I thought the price was very reasonable for the year and mileage, even without the upgrades (lights conversions, Austec remap etc). Does £17995 really sound high?
As hard as it is to do, usually the main reason things don't sell is the price.
Modifications don't add value, even though they improve the looks etc a car is only worth what the market commands. Yours is a new car that should hold it in good stead.
Unfortunately cars such as this won't do the sale of yours and favours. A dealer car that would come with waranty for at least 3 months, same age and mileage.here
If your desperate for the cash then you may have to take a hit on the price. Just holding out for a couple of months could see you with a sale.

slap some 18's on it and enjoy it a bit more!
sure way to enjoy the looks more but to adversely impact handling and turning circle.
as if the cerbera's got a turning circle anyway. handling on mine is fine with nitrons. infact with all the 3 cerbs i've owned, 4.2 with 16's 4.5 with 17's (which were pourous) and the latest 4.5 with 18's (which handles the best.)
Thanks for the contact gbird i will give him a call.
I am fully aware that mods do not add to the value of car if you are putting whale tail spoilers and neon lights from halfwits under the chassis. However, in the TVR world, there are several mods which people actively look for. In several cases people have stated they are looking for cars with several of the following:
Spiders
Sports exhaust
Headlight conversion
Rear light conversion
Nitrons
Warranty on major parts
Short of nitrons and spiders, my car has all of this (I can have a 3-month warranty supplied thorugh a company I do business with, who will sell the car for me, but generally deal with corsas etc). Do you rec it is worth advertising that a warranty is available on the ad?

The only reason I didnt previously is because I have just replaced the clutch and had the gearbox totally reconned by Austec, which means these are under 12 months warranty anyway!
Any other independent dealers out there worth trying a la Agger? Or does anyone know how to get hold of James (tried his mobile again and no response - is he around at the mo?)

So what do you think makes the most difference to the price? Having checked the classifieds on this website I would say mine is fairly competitive for the year and mileage. Others that are older tend to have spiders on, but then it has already been said on the forum that mods shouldnt increase the value?
If that is the case then I will drop the price as I dont want Bobbit syndrome, which I might wake up to if we don't move soon.

Looks like a good car, Just my 2p but it seems to be too close to dealer money, presumably without dealer warranty etc.. The problem I've found with Cerbs is that because there are so many that are available much cheaper, either because they can't seem to sell or because of the general condition, the price drops to such a degree that asking a realistic price (based on CAP/Market guides etc) you get ignored, irrespective of the cars condition/history.
Mine was basically rebuilt from the ground up and cost 000's like so many others and will be a superb car for it's new owner (deposit taken this weekend
), yet a buyer would still compare it to a car that has sketchy service history, lower mileage and £3K to £4K less in asking price, to then possibly end up spending double that to get it sorted. You'll rarely get a good price on Ebay for one of these.. keep advertising on PH, possibly drop £1K, regularly resubmit the ad to keep it near the top and sell with the Spiders on as these are a desireable extra - alternatively you could also try Adrian Blythe who might do a sale or return and can ask that little extra for warranty/finance. Good luck.

Also I was intent on making sure the engine was mint rather than spending £1500 on a set of alloys, when there was nothing wrong with the existing ones!
Does anyone have a set of spiders knocking about as there are never any on PH classifieds? Private mail probably better for obvious reasons!!!
