My Norton AV subscription is about due for renewal, but as it now costs almost as much as buying the latest version and sometimes hasn't been loading updates properly I just wondered if there were any good free alternatives for single user PCs?

Thanks

I was given Norton 2006 to replace my out of date version - I ditched it after trying it because it seem to really slow the PC down and it took minutes for my laptop to boot. I have installed Avast antivirus after seeing it mentioned on here and so far I am impressed with it - it even found something that Norton 2006 did not.

Norton is C**P! it raps itself around your system, strangling it to prevent viruses running, only issue being, nothing else works either. Pig to get off your system once its installed. I would wipe the hard drive and reinstall after trying to remove Norton.
