Sticky Brakes

Hi!

I couldn't get my 993 out of the garage this morning as the brakes were stuck on. I've had this before in other cars where the handbrake shoes have stuck on, but I left the car without the hand brake on.

I had just washed it but had gone for a quick spin to dry the brakes off...stuck it in the garage and just left it in gear. This morning though they were well and truly stuck on.

Any recommendations on how long a drive needed to dry the brakes off? Or ways to prevent this happening?

You need to take the car out after washing, apply the brakes a few times nice and firmly but also apply the hand brake a couple of times as you are moving. Just apply the hand brake with light pressure to clean the shoes

The older styls sliding caliper brakes would tend to stick in the "applied" position. Taking a large "C" clamp to push the piston all the way in, and then giving it a shot of Gibbs or similar solvent/lubricant works wonders

If you drive with a stuck piston, it can potentially heat up the disc so hot it can set the car on fire!.
