I have inherited a Sony Ericsson k700i Which is Vodafone branded and i want to unbrand it.

It appears to be unlocked as i am using a t-mobile pay as you go sim in it, but the vodafone branding has disabled the one feature i want to work! (using mp3's for ringtones)

Apparently they disabled it so that you have to pay vodafone for each song if you want songs as ringtones Cheeky bastards! I hate the way companies are doing this stuff these days...

Can i just take it to one of those mobile phone kiosks and have them do it? Vodafone say that the warranty is unvalid unless it still has the branding, but its a used phone and out of warranty anyway.

Yep, I took my locked 6230 to a back-street phone shop, £10 and 10 seconds later it was unlocked. You could search for the unlock codes / procedure on various forums, but I did this and it didn't work - I was given 7 codes to try and you only get 5 attempts!

As i understand it, ericcson have a deal with vodafone that all K700i phones in the UK are Vodafone branded, rip off britain again. You can buy an unbranded one abroad and use it here though...

i got my D500 debranded(orange) from www.fonefunshop.co.uk.

Looking at their website it would appear they offer the same service for the k700i

Not done a search, but the forums on www.esato.com are usually a goldmine for SonyEricsson info.
