Well he liked it, but he wasn't blown away with it....the words "nice" "cute" were used a lot. Maybe its just me but when I spend £55k on a sports car I want more than nice.
Get the impression that what he expected he got but wasn't gushing about the car - get the feeling it was a little too sensible, safe & competant for Tiff!

As Jonathan says an RS4 is not a sports car - neither is it a luxury saloon. It's a niche product for people who need such a compromise.
The Cayman doesn't really have a competitor at the moment, maybe when the Z4M Coupe is launched next year, but even then it will trade heavily on the attraction of the Porsche badge. Porsche have walked a very careful line between being more prestigous than BMW/Mercedes but much cheaper than Ferrari/Lamborghini. Surprisingly they still get away with their very own niche and it doesn't look like anyone will properly challenge that for the forseeable future.

Tiff said it doesn't handle better than a Boxster S, as has been said in other reports too. That says it all really.
Those that want a mid engined, stunning handling sports car for 35 - 45k will by the Boxster. For the many that love the rear engined feel of a 911, only a 911 will do.
Victims of Porsche marketing or need a hard top, will by the Cayman.

I suspect it's actually a very fine car that will be as balanced as the Boxster but more fun, and be more accesable than a 911 but cheaper. I can see why someone would choose one and I wouldn't berate them for it. I see it as being as quick as my old 3.4 996 but more fun than the Boxster S I used to own. However I can't spec one for much less than £54k and that seems expensive even though it's not (compared to what I paid for my 996C2 all those years ago).

I agree totally. I'm going to wait and get one that's had the deperciation hit and then hopefully it really will be a great car and value for money!! I've had Boxster and Boxster S but the 911 never appealed to me. Cayman definately does!!
