knackered engine earth strap mounting

So the bolt at the chassis-rail end of the earth-strap (which comes across from the dipstick bracket on the block) was so rusty it undid by leaving a circular hole in the chassis tube. What is the simplest way of rebolting into this hole ? Did it have some kind of blind fastening or was it brazed on ?

Please tell me that I myself am being a dipstick.

sounds like they just tapped the chasis rail and bolted it in..... My chassis had no specific place to bolt the earth strap to so I had to find my own.

Unless you are going to weld a nut into or over your rusty hole I would leave it alone and find a new position.

From memory my earth strap comes from a fixing on the gearbox and goes to a hole drilled through a web on the chassis forming a triangulation at the back of the top suspension mount.

My earth connections - battery and engine - are bolts that go through tabs connected to the chassis. So, the other end of the bolt is exposed (no tapping), allowing a full sized nyloc nut. (2004 GTR chassis)

Even though this is great, I'm constantly paranoid of something coming loose, and the next time I start up I get a nasty puff of smoke and have a burnt harness. So, this winter, I'm going to double up the connections.
