Moving to Cape Town
Discussion
We stopped their twice on a transit to, and from West africa. It's a decent city, with decent nightlife. House are cheap as chips, but there is the usual problems with the local ghetto types. From what we saw, most westerners live is sort of compounds, with security. Your best bet would be to travel over, and see what you think. the waterfront is nice, with great restaurents, and bars, and shopping, but it's a bit grim down by the docks where we were!

I have a lot of family over there, all living in the Southern suburbs of Cape Town. If you dont want to live in compound then move onto the cape peninsular, Constanitia (if you have a few hundred grand to spend), Fishoek, Norhoek, Simonstown are all relatively crime free (the key word is relatively) and affordable.
Traffic cops are cheap to bribe and automatic speeding tickets can be thrown in the bin as there is a 5 year backlog.

Thanks for the replies. I grew up in Cape Town as a kid, we left when I was 14. But still have Aunt's, Uncle's and Cousins down there so expect to fit in quickly. We are intending to settle in the Southern Suburbs as that is where all the good schools are. And working in construction it is fairly central for getting around the greater city.
Our only concern is the crime factor but there are loads of positives. Mostly getting paid more for working less hours, actually getting a 2 day weekend, loads to do when not working, having a garden large enough for the kids to play in, good wine, good beaches, etc. To tell you the truth most places would be better than working a 70+ hours week for 2 years straight in Dubai. I do not even mind paying tax again.
Back to the original question, are there any PH's in Cape Town and what is the local motorsport scene like?
