Morning Gents,

I'm considering buying a lightly damaged Ghibli and I need a n/s wing, n/s headlight and front bumper.

I've just read through some old threads and seen the price of a headlight at £450! Are there any places that break Maseratis where I might find the bits cheaper?
Does anyone know if they're even still available new through Maserati? When I repaired my Integrale Evo I got the last used front wing in the UK at the time.

Also, the car is listed as a 1992 2.0 Turbo. Did they make them that early and will it be the 2.0 V6 twin turbo engine?

Cheers,
Bryn.

1992 Ghibli info

It will be the 1996cc twin turbo. Can't remember what it was rated at in 1992 - either 220bhp of poss even 306bhp in quad cam form.

buyers guide

Seems the 1996cc was for the itallian domestic market only (the itallian ceiling on tax at 2000cc being the culprit). UK modles were the 2.8 litre in theory. IS the car a LHD car? Might need to source parts from italy.

Worth giving Bill McGrath a call - they'll certainly fill you in on parts availability for the model.

Be careful - those Japanese IHI turbos aren't cheap to replace I hear!

Thanks for the info and links, that's a great help. I've emailed Bill McGrath to see what the parts situation is.

Its a LHD car that I'm importing from Japan incidentally.

Cheers,
Bryn.

Bryn, finding used spare parts belonging to the front of a Ghibli is challenging. The quoted price for a new headlamp sounds right (600 EUR if I remember correctly). The usual Ghibli (and Shamal - 3200 GT has traction control I believe) crash is a front impact after loosing control over the rear end of the car (due to sudden delivery of a lot of torque by turbo charger around 3000rpm). Hence headlamps, front bumpers and so on are highly sought after parts. Better do a thorough calculation before buying.

Also it's better to go for a post 96 model ('GT') as a number of improvements were done (particularly bigger breaks and rear axle from 456GT).

To go to the expense and effort of shipping the car halfway across the world and repairing it, this either has to be the bargain of the century or a very special car...

Thanks again for the info gents, I've priced the aforementioned parts at around £800. I'm not sure that the car is the bargain of the century but at £3k its not expensive. The Integrale Evo 2 with only 1900 miles that I imported is definitely in the very special car category though! I am in the motor trade and import cars from Japan every week so its no more effort than usual for me.

Can anyone confirm that it'll have the 306bhp engine, as if its only 220bhp I probably won't bother.

Cheers,
Bryn.

Eurospares are the largest parts source in the UK so give them a try - Speak to James or Claudio.

The model you mention is strange though - Japan is normally RHD and IIRC a '92 Ghibli is a Series 1 (biturbo), its first year of production, not a Series II as suggested by your header. The '92 SHOULD be fitted with a 24 valve 4 cam v6 of 306bhp but caveat emptor as usual.

Hi Nigelo, thanks for the info, I'll give you Eurospares a try too. Do you have a web address/telephone number?

Just to clarify the car is a LHD '92 model imported to Japan. I believe LHD cars carry more 'status' over there as they're seen as more exotic, plus I don't think RHD was available until 1993? I used the II in the title to differentiate between the model from a few decades earlier, my mistake!

Thanks again to everyone, you have been a big help.

Cheers,
Bryn.

Ah yes, that "teflon tyre" moment that you think can never happen to me...
