And would like to know why the hell is there no TVR dealers over here. I am a huge TVR fan and someday want to buy a T350C. Unfortunatly having just emigrated from Scotland i have found out that TVR does not exist over here. Does anyone have any advise on how to import one or have i had it.

It IS possible to import cars into NZ. The TVRCC magazine had an article written by a NZ member about how they did just that. Why not join the TVRCC and see if they can put you in touch with the New Zealand club - I believe there is one!
From memory that guy in sprint had to rebuild his entire car onto a new specially designed and built chasis so as to comply with the NZ regulations!!!

The goverment in NZ defines a 'low volume' manufacturer as producing 200 cars a year maximum. In the EU its 2000. So TVRs are classified in NZ the same as Ford, GM, BMW etc. when it comes to airbags (lack of) etc.
They changed the ruling a few years ago, so TVRs that were already there were fine. The Chim mentioned earlier needed its chassis stripped down and re-coated due to rust. NZ only allows for a small amount of rust on structural parts (about the size of a 50p piece).
But for now it means no new (or recent) TVRs can be imported. Cars over 20 years old are ok though.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. Really appreciate it. I know the TVR car club is worldwide and i have been meaning to email that person in Auckland who is part of the TVR club to ask him what the story is.
I can't understand why they allow them in OZ and not in NZ.
I am sure that where there is a will there is a way.

Not so hard to understand... we are two different countries... for the time being anyway.
There are a couple of possibilities - do a thorough search on in the New Zealand forum on "LTSA" and you'll get the options. Probably your only realistic choice is to bring it in as a motorsport vehicle which has some strings attached. Whatever you do don't import a late model TVR and expect to work around the system once you get here, there are already a few sitting in garages without plates around the country.
I have a Cerbera in bits here that I plan to build up with substantial enough modifications (modified chassis, engine & gearbox transplant, etc.) for it to be registered as a scratch built low volume vehicle (that's a Q plate to you). No guarantee of success but I'm happy to chance it and just use for the track if I fail. Only problem is there's a shit load of work to do and I haven't had time to get started on it yet... a mission for 2006 I guess!

I think the problem is that the vehicle has to be crashworthy. I was recently asked if My T350 passed the crashworthy criteria in Oz. Don't know but in Oz it does not matter with Personal Imports. It seems that if it passed the Australian regs then NZ would pass it. It has also been mentioned that if TVR's passed the European regulations then that would be fine. I had heard that the Tuscan was tested but have no idea of the result.
I know that getting cars registered in NZ is proving difficult. By all means reference my car as being registered in Australia, (Victoria), if you speak with the the NZ authorities.
