Who's doing what over the winter with their cars.

Ime going to pull the plenum off my 91 in the next day or two to sort out the hessitation i have on "Full Power" under acceleration, also i have a horrible interference on my "Blose" stereo and the ABS stays light on.
If anyone has any experience of these, ile be interested to know how you got over the problems.
Nige how are you getting on with yours?

Planning on spending the next few nights under the Z06 removing the good turbo so that they can be both be rebuilt as a pair.
I have the car booked on a rolling road to get a base line then
Replace the rev counter needle after it wilted and then broke in half!
Replace the fuel tank sender to get the fuel guage working properly again. Set up the MSD Ignition so that max advance comes in nice and early then set up the carb for performance. Get the car back on the rolling road for final adjustments.
Relocate the handbrake cable mounts on the rear trailing arms so that my 18"x 9.5" rear alloys will fit.

Sounds interesting,i remember the days when some of us used to get a holley and just plonk it on ,back in the 80's,no wonder we didnt notice the difference,do you set the carb up yourself?

Yeah, well I try! I havent done an Edelbrock before but, with the help of the forums I should manage. It takes time and a few test runs, but I should manage. It didnt take too long with the previous carb, a Barry Grant Speed demon so hopefully the Edelbrock will be the same.

I think thats the best things about these forums, thats why i try to share as much as possible, theres nothing like being stuck scratching you @rse when someone on the other side of the planet can explain how its done, good luck with it.

A symtom not unfamiliar to you eh bud?
At least you know the herbal solutions at your disposal.
So then, a complete frame-off resto doesn't really do it all?
Sorry ginglis, just crankin' ya, couldn't resist since you've been so quiet since you finished at the refinery. Even as quiet as Pinches, wassup with you 2?
My plans for the winter are-
- Install a decent sound system, I have an 8inch screen, DVD player, and Subwoofer, to go in and also ripping out the standard(crap) interior speakers and replacing with some kicker components
- Get rid of my red/amber rear lights and put the originals back on. But i still havent figured out where to relocated some amber indicators (ideas welcome)
- Also a louder exhuast if I have any money left!

One of the problems ive found is a vacum hose from the back of the plenum to the MAP sensor has gone all baggy with time and all the heat thrown up from the engine,in the photo you can see how it has expanded and is a loose fit on the fittings, also its come apart(that end should be Glued/welded on),if this was leaking then it would lead to high unsettled idle,,iwas experiencing this when i came to stop at junctions.
What ive done is fit a new MAP vacum hose,a little tip i was given was to use small cable ties to help give an even tighter fit(a bit belt and braces)but the hose is in a tight area and you dont want to have to fiddle with it after the plenum is refitted.

Sounds good, ime halfway through fitting the stereo to my 90,it would be good to see how you fit the system.
I prefer the look of the original reflectors, but where do you stick the indicators
As some point i will have a reshuffle of exhausts,i have a Borla on the 91 and corsa on the 90.
I think i will probably put the corsa on the 91 and get a 3" system for the 90,at which point the new Borla will be come available, probably around next spring...first come first serve.
C4's with the top brake lights use 4 halogen bulbs,if you order them from a vette mag they are big money.
A cheap alternative are B&Q's "General Electric" 10w 12v M11 Halogen and they work out around the 7-8 quid mark, this is around a quarter of the price though the vette dealers.
Ive had them on my 90 for around 4 years with no problems, and have just fitted them to my 91 Z.
Hope this helps.

Cable tie any other vac pipes but leave one end of that free. Reason being if the car backfires on start-up which they do on the odd occasion, it will blow a vac pipe off and it is usually that one. Thats a good thing because you can pop it back on in minutes. If it can't blow that one off it will blow the next weekest off and thats going to be under the plenum.
Been there and done that (on the morning of Le Mans a couple of years back - I had it back on and caught the train but it would have been a different story if it needed a plenum pull). I even had a bit of string around the pipe so I could easily retrieve it if it came off at both ends.
