Work is asking for opinions on bike parking at work. At the moment there is a big park for cars but the bike parking is very ad hoc.

Apart from covered, secure, easily accessed parking is there anyone who has gone through similar and can suggest some other useful points to suggest?

If the parking area has tarmac ensure that there are "hard pads" for stands as you don't want your bike to fall over come warm summer - soft tarmac weather.

My dream parking...........

Insurance approved ground anchors. With good quality locks and chains that can be leased from the firm - preventing riders from having to commute into work with 3kg of metal about their person.

The aforementioned good quality hard standing or plastic pucks to spread the load.

Dropped Kerbs.

CCTV/Webcam.

Halogen Lighting.

Drying/Changing Rooms with Helmet Lockers.

Complimentary visor wipes, kitchen roll for cleaning light lenses, chain lube.

If cost is an issue then something sturdy to chain a wheel to and decent lighting is more important than cover in my opinion.

One more thing! Bollards to stop car drivers parking in the "bike only" space, especially if the bike park is close to the building entrance and the car park is pretty full.

Yes my company sorted out very similar situation some 4 years ago. Basically designated a number of spaces on one section of the car park for motorcycle parking only. Car park is gated with cctv and 24hr security guards so not a problem.
