Most slippery

Whoooooa, that was slippery. It’s not a good time of year for Mrs Z’s car to breakdown and having to use the V8S. The low sun is a PITA too, it either shines in you eyes directly when going up hills, or shines off the bonnet when you go down.

Don’t even get me started on my lack of headlamp power on the journey home

Same here!! Drove from Brum to Rochdale & back last Monday in the S3.Looked like a nice day,did'nt check the weather report & drove most of the way in the snow!! Good practice for skid control but probably the most stressful drive ever.Only ended up sideways once.
Sat in traffic for 4 hours & she never coughed or moved a guage from normal! Sorted

Ah yes traffic. It's funny that in the winter a few stops in traffic are quite welcome as the heater goes from frosty to flambe in minutes. You just get your toes defrosted and you are off.

On a serious note, has anyone ever tried partially obscuring the intake for the rad in the winter, or can you get a different thermostat that keeps the temperature up around 80 to 90 deg.

I'd forgotten how dim Mini headlamps are. I try to get someone to follow me so I can see where I'm going

It's a crazy idea, but have you considered replacing your current knackered 'stat with a nice new working one?

That's just it the stat is working perfectly AFAIK, I thought most peoples running temps were ca. 60 deg when moving. Mine gets up to 60 in a few minutes, but that does not seem to give me much in the way of heating. Perhaps my matrix is blocked, unless my temp guage is out. The fan comes on at 90 deg, which is about the time the heater seems to be working at full chat. What I need is a stat that keeps my normal running at 80 deg. If I have the normal running temp wrong then let me know.
