I've managed to warp the front right disc - hot disc and jet wash - what a fool! When i jack the car up, I can feel it just catching at some bits of the disc. I get an ever so slight vibration coming through the pedal when I brake with any real force - not too bad but enough.

It also squeaks a speeds under about 8mph - very annoying.

Do you guys reckon that it'll skim down ok? Any idea how much that should cost? I don't want to get ripped off. They're steel by the way.

Happens all the time with FTOs (touch wood not me yet).

Should skim down, but if they take more than a few thou' off it will affect you brake power distribution, and may cause you to pull towards or away from that wheel (probably away as it will be not be able to dissipate as much power).

Depends where you take it - the local machine shop (if you know of one) could probably do it for 10-50 quid (depending on what kind of kit they have, how long it'll take them and how much they want to rip you off).

It'll be worth doing, stop the squeeking and judder, but watch you pad wear on that wheel in particular.

Edit - justed asked another FTO owner who had theirs done - cost her 115 pounds per disc! I'd get new ones for that!

I am also suffering from a warped front disk (or whatever since apparently there is no such thing as warped disks) which started during a really heavy track session - eeeeaking and vibration under braking and there is now the shape of a REAR pad outlined in rough rusty bits (which wont clear) on one of the FRONT disks.

My local Lotus expert recons that the previous owner swapped the disks over after leaving the handbrake on for a while and my repeated cooking of the disks on track has exposed the problem

With skimming around £100 and a new set of S2 drilled disks £150, seems best to do the job right.

Go and do a trackday.
The heat involved would straighten them out if they're not too bad (has worked for me).

If not, you can skim slightly, or just go for new alloy belled disks.

Any thoughts or info on cost of a new set of discs.

Appears to be a consensus of around £150. Is this for original equipment or pattern?

www.swlotus.com is doing a pair of S2 drilled disks for £152 inc vat - I believe that the OEM actually supplies Lotus (but dont actually care). Got mine fitted today bright and shiney to be hammered into submission tomorrow at Bedford. PS the bloke is a Lotus specialist and makes his wedge on fitting so may not want to do mail order box shifting.
