I have recently sold my S3c and am already seeking a replacement. However, my budget is £10.5k absolute max due to a wedding and house improvement works next year. What do you recommend for max enjoyment min grief at this budget?

You might get a secondhand bike for £10.50.

what sort of state would a chimaera have to be in to be only worth £10.5k? I'm not sure you could get a nice example for that price. I suppose if the carpets needed restoring from a leaky roof or something you could justify that sort of price. just a thought like

A V8S would be more of an animal - and much louder/nicer sounding as no cats. For the 'raw' TVR experience go for the V8S, for a comfy quiet everyday ride, the Chimaera. IMHO.

Good point -- although the way I'm having to topple the asking price on my Chimaera (95/N) means you might just get a good one for that...

Go for a higher mileage Chimaera is my advice, I bought a 95/M 4.0 with 88000 miles fom Henley Heritage for 10,500 pounds, including a 1 year warranty and have had no problems, mileage now is 96000! I dont know how many times I have said this but TVRs that are used everyday even with a high mileage are fine AND ARE AS RELIABLE AS ANY OTHER CAR, maybe even more so with an under stressed 4.0. I urge you to go for it. Cars with 60000+ miles are cheap and probably better than low milage cars. I do not agree with Shadowninja, my car is in is excellent condition

Having just bought an S3c (!) - I'd go for the V8S personally...

Try both, V8S will be a bit more "hardcore" than the Chimaera... and if you loved the S (it looked loved to me, which is why I bought it!) then, the V8S is more of the same... only quicker.

my MOT station just sold a fair condition chimaera for 7500, needed a bit of TLC but it was all there and reasonably straight so they are about.

ah well I've never seen a chimaera with that sort of mileage. I was thinking more about lower mileage ones with that sort of price tag.

...although with my Chimaera's Zertec sports exhaust you can have that rumble and the practicality of a sorted but newer (95/N) car...

Chimaera definitley. V8S is very dated looks wise.Chassis is nowhere near as good as a Chim. With a bit of haggling you should be able to find a mint Chimaera with about 50K on the clock for 10K, you may even be lucky enough to find a 4.3 or 4.5. one...

You'll need to grow a beard and buy some cardigans if you want a V8S!!

Manek - You weren't by any chance driving around Southsea on a Saturday morning about two weeks ago?

There was Chimeara just like yours with a VERY loud exhaust system on it - Sounded just like a pre cat Griff!

Nope, haven't driven it very far at all since I decided to sell and then got the front end resprayed. It sits in the garage wanting to be let out...

This is getting pointless! Midge - I suggest you go and see some examples of each - your local TVRCC meeting will oblige - and have a chat. The owners will probably be only too happy to take you for a quick blat... then you can make your own mind up without having partisan PHers shouting at you from their respective corners!
