i've been to le mans for the last 4 years and am(was) really looking forward to next year's event already. this year i've taken the plunge and signed up for the 2006 caterham academy; provisional calender just out and what do i see? - one of the events (lydden sprint) is on the 17th june!

clearly need to get le mans sorted quite soon so dreadful decision needs to be made. so, which one do you miss? the best race in the world and the best weekend of the year or one of the events in my first year of motorsport?

any views?

A tough choice, I'm sure, but Le Mans will be there next year...

The calender for the championship I race in has not come out yet, but if I have to miss one round to go to Le Mans, that will be one of my dropped (points) rounds. Just had my tickets for the ACO stand confirmed, now I have to pay for them

unfortunately the academy does not have dropped rounds - they all count - not that i'm going to be challenging for the title - it's just sod's law that the two are on the same weekend.

But think how much money you could save by going to Le Mans. No travel or accomodation costs at Lydden, no risk of rebuilding the car etc. Plenty more race meetings in the year but there's only one Le Mans!

edited to say: of course there is more than one meeting at Le Mans but you know what I mean!

Racing yourself has to be the choice, and I'm sure once you've started you won't want to miss a round, those points will be your aim in life.

You can always record Le Mans and watch it later to see what you've missed, but you won't be able to replay the experience you'll missing racing at Lydden.

Book Le Mans, then see how your doing in the academy closer to the date.

If your up near the top of the points, I can't really see you having too much trouble selling your Le Mans space on. A quite post on here and I'm sure you will have someone biting your hand off.

Le Mans you'll have to try harder and drive better in the other rounds so you will not need to race at Lydden! Now let me see Lydden or Le Mans?

... i posted the same question on the caterham academy site (bet you can't guess what most of the answers were!). it seems the thing to do is get a late ferry/train and drive down from calais hoping to get there by the small hours. sounds like it might be a plan (will miss the le mans build up but still catch 12 hours of race). i will have to park in one of the public car parks so i guess all my race kit will get knicked - maybe nutter will take the range rover this year and i can use it as a locker.

anyone know if there are any lockers available at le mans? i've never seen any but you never know.

anyway - i think i'll be doing LM whether i go to lydden or not - see you all there!

cheers
si.

Don't know of any lockers, but I'm sure a friendly PHer would lend you some space in the car.

If you're over by Houx, you'd be more than welcome to stash your stuff with us.
