Following the earlier post about a Forum member being allocated a SP60 for speeding on a Motorway and before being struck down with the bladdy flu (Doc says I'm ok as I don't have a burning desire to crap on a car windscreen so not Avian) I called at our local Mags Court Office who informed me the SP60 was for violations of Temporary Speed Limits and one not already covered at SP10 to 50 and should not have been allocated for Motorway speeding. If so allocated then one should write back to the Mags Clerks Office for the correct Code to be applied.

Now today In the DT Motoring Section is an article highlighting this apparent confusion and that following respresentation by ACPO to DVLA and Mags Association, the Code SP60 has been withdrawn. New guidelines have been sent out to SCP's.

Reported also that the most helpful in righting this wrong allocation was Cumbra SCP and the least helpful, where else but Blunderbus County.......

I had an SP60, that should have been an SP30, it's just expired but is still considered in insurance.

How would I know if I have been charged wrongly by Ins Companies, (is SP60 'worse' than SP30) can it be retrospectively altered, if I have been 'wrongly convicted' do I have any rights? is it worth the bother? (I doubt it)

I cant help thinking that a bit of an overhaul is needed to bring things into line with each other. How many other areas are similar to the SP60? A consistent approach rather than the scattered system that is currently in place...

But, hey - wheels of justice turn very slowly so lets not hold breaths yet.
