....and Phreda too

So, it's that time of year again.

What great roadkill recipes and tip top tips on plucking.....

.....yes, I said plucking.....

...has anyone got?

Should I try and skin the little lovelies and avoid the unmentionable bit which.... I'd rather ...not... think...about.... (too late!)

Note for Mungo: sorry - wrong type of bird, you've strayed onto the wrong thread........

I have half a clue.

I've "done" a few in my time, but not for a while. Hence seeking tips!

(Am WFH-ing today and it's my only opportunity for a bit pluck, draw, truss this week!)

Whatever you do dont eat them the day you shoot them!

Hang for at least a week, maybe even two.

Dunk the bird in mildly hot water and pluck the feathers out in the direction that they are lying (otherwise you will tear the skin).

Once all the flight feathers are off, remove the down with a candle, brulee torch or full on blow torch (whatever floats yer boat).

Gut it, behead it and wash the cavity.

Stuff inside with half an apple and half a lemon, place parma ham or bacon on the breast and roast for 90-120 minutes at 180 degs C!

LUSH!

Matt.

Thanks

Ive had to pluck (or skin), clean and prepare from scratch pheasants, rabbits etc.

Trust me, you dont want to do it! We wont even go into the smell.... *shudders*

Its second on my list of "most gross things Ive ever done"...

Well what I actually meant was the bloke in an escort van that comes round my council estate flogging them.

Going right O/T here seing as the Pheasant question has been well answered (I'm still not convinced mind) I had to laugh this morning when I saw another strain of the L33 syndrome I actually saw P3TE G on another bloody BMW which goes to prove my previous thoughts that a large percentage of Lee's were dyslexic was infact bollox. The common factor is the car and therefore I now believe a large percentage of BWM drivers are infact dyslexic.

Like yer thinking on the Roquefort but I can think of nothing worse than a 'classic' pheasant fondue - white wine and gouda with game. Heaven forfend!

Just to clarify, the recipe in the post from Gaffer was stick a big pan of boiling beef dripping in the middle of the table and everyone deep fry their pheasant

Save the cheese for after pud with a nice vintage Grahams

Talking of recipes, going to do a "Quail inside a duck inside a chicken inside a goose" for Christmas. Anyone here done anything similar ? Maybe have to get a pheasant or two involved
