I ordered some stuff from Firebox the other week, and it was delived by a company I shall refer to as Sh1ttyLink.

The delivery day was last friday, and it has to be signed for. I phoned Sh1ttylink to say no-one was going to be in, so could they deliver it to the future MrsJimothy at work.

The guy on the end of the phone gave me a long lecture about how I'd have to contact Firebox about it as they will ONLY deliver to the person they're instructed to deliver to, and the WILL NEVER leave the parcel round the back or in a porch, AND MOST OF ALL THEY NEVER LEAVE IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE SUCH AS THE NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR, THEY ALWAYS RETURN IT TO THE DEPOT IF THE INTENDED RECIPIENT ISN'T IN. The guy really emphasised this point as its part of their proof of delivery guarantee. He told me they'd leave a card with instructions about picking a new delivery date, or depot collection.

Got home, card waiting for me, written on it in large letters:

"LEFT WITH No 15".

There is no word around which accurately describes just how much length CityLink suck. Horrid people to deal with.

I knew who you were talking about as soon as I saw the thread title - even down to the moniker 'sh1tty Link'.

I don't think I've ever actually had a parcel they've supposedly delivered, first time round. They must have a trained shrew to do the knocking on the door. Then it is straight back to the depot!

My better half recently ordered something from Amazon. She received an email from Amazon saying the parcel had returned to the depot - no sign of any card through the door. On contacting ParcelForce she was told that in all likelihood the subcontractor doing the deliveries (!!!) had not even bothered trying to deliver it.

Good to see people still take pride in their work.

I could not agree more.

Seems that Citylink either cater for home workers, or stay at home mothers/fathers

I'm on first name terms with the bloke at my local depot, pathetic really. And their website tracking systems sucks - no updates all day, leaving you forever guessing.

Service seems to vary depending on delivery driver too - you rightly mention that they won't leave stuff with neighbours - well, on one occasion my neighbour came out saying Gregs expecting something so can we take it in, sure enough, I get home from work and there it is. Next time they won't leave it. Exasperated, I go to the depot (again) - oh yeah, we don't leave stuff with neighbours in case you've fallen out with them and they keep it etc etc...

I could go on, but it would only wind me up.

Excellent and timely thread, I had my first experience with S*****link last week. Card through door saying they missed me (my fault for having a Monday to Friday nine to five job I suppose). Try calling their unbelievably painful 'help' line. Can't speak to anyone about redirecting parcel to my office so request a ring back. Nothing happens either that day or next so try again only to be told that my order had been 'updated' (by registering a ring back I presume) so couldn't speak to anyone.

As luck would have it, my girlfriend was off sick today when they randomly tried to redeliver to my home address so thankfully we've got our parcel but god only knows where it would have ended up otherwise.

There's a definite gap in the market for out of hours and weekend delivery for all this cheap stuff we buy on the internet...

One good thing about Parcelforce is they leave it with a nearby post office, and these are usually open Saturday mornings.
Been rather useful for some deliveries from Hotel Chocolat and Hamleys.

Ours is left at a local sorting office a 5 mile drive away.I sometimes think it'd be easier to go and collect things from the sender myself.

yes! an opportunity to rant

ParcelFarce, what a bunch of tossers. I booked and paid for a parcel to be picked up and delivered last week, I arranged it so they'd collect on the Thursday, and deliver to me at work on the Friday, ready for my MOT on saturday (they were tyres)

my mate phones me at six pm, on the day of collection (they said the collection would be made between 14:00 and 16:30) to say that nobody's turned up to collect them.

I checked the parcel reference on the website. Error. So, I phoned them up, only to be given the opportunity to speak to "winner of worst customer telephone manners in the world 2005". I was informed that the driver 'must not have bothered to come and collect them'. No shit sherlock.

She then informed me that I'd no chance of getting them delivered for the weekend, unless the driver came today instead (Friday) and I paid £20 extra for Saturday delivery. I questioned why I should have to pay extra to rememdy their cock up, and apparently she wasn't in the position to upgrade me to Saturday delivery.

So, what positions are you in your wit? Doggy? Foetal? AARRGGHHHHH

I cancelled the whole thing and i'm awaiting a refund.

In defence of sh!tty link I have found that they seem to be the one delivery company that prioritises residential deliveries so on most occasions I have received the item before leaving for work.

However, on the occasions they haven't caught me before work they have been awful. When trying (and failing) to deliver to my old house in Banbury the parcel was taken back to their depot in Kiddeminster - 50 miles away!

Nor have I.

What amazes me is the difference between US postal services and UK. I order stuff from the US and pay for express delivery. Everything is tracked - with a couple of updates a day. Then, once in the UK, you are lucky to get one update and very lucky if the final 50-miles doesn't take twice as long as the first 3000!!! Amazing!

At least you got a card
I ordered something online and was sent an email saying it had been dispatched and would be delivered three Tuesdays ago. It hadn't been delivered after a week and a half, so I checked the website only to find they'd tried to deliver it 5 times and had failed, but they hadn't bothered to leave me a card or call me?? They eventually did get around to calling me and apparently couldn't find my parents road (which I find a little hard to believe as they've delivered stuff before and it's not exactly a back road) and took another 4 days before my goods turned up. Looks like they'd used the package as a football in the meantime

Best one for me was the couriers who left a brand new Dell laptop on the doorstep.

No signature, not note.

We found it when we came home that evening.

Lucky I live in a decent street!

This is the same company that's just shoved a card through the letterbox informing me that they tried to deliver something, but I was out. I haven't left the house today.

I ordered some stuff from Firebox recently and when I got home from work the package was literally sitting on my doorstep!

I have to admit, I have had good service from CityLink. They often call in the morning (and leave a card) and then pop back in the evening to try again on the same day. Their depot is near my house too, so collection isn't a problem. I think alot of them are franchises, so levels of service differ massively.

The worse courier companies are the opens that are only open Mon-Fri, 9-5. Ironically exactly the hours most people work!

Personally, I prefer citylink to parcelfarce.

Both have depots near my house but when I miss them I can turn up to the citylink depot and collect my parcel that night, between 6 & 8.

My local parcelforce depot makes me wait 24 hours before collecting and then shuts at 6 anyway, meaning I have to leave work early.

If only they delivered outside office hours.

I find that Lynx have the worst drivers, but DHL have the most dreadful customer service people on the planet.

Never had any problems with Citylink.
