Hello,

I'm a newbie so I appologise if this is a frequently ask question. I currently drive an MX5 and aren't really impressed with the new one. I've always liked the Elise ever since I drove an S1. I'm thinking of getting an '03/04 S2 and I was just wondering what it's really like living with an Elise?

It'll basically be a replacement for my MX5, my girlfriend has a practical car so it's really used for a short commute during the week, at weekends and the odd drive to France!!

I used to have a MX5 and as much as I liked it I thought it was time to move on. I bought a S1 Elise a couple of months ago and Im absolutely loving it. They are totally different to an MX5. If you dont have a big commute everyday then I stongly recomend getting one. The overall running costs are similar but an Elise is a lot more special.

Do it, you wont regret it.

I'd buy an S1 if I were you That said the best thing to do is to take everybodies opinions with a pinch of salt.

Its a buyers market, go out and drive lots of them and buy the one you like best

It's really easy to live with an S2 - go and test drive one and you'll know that you must do it!!!!!!
I've got an S2 Exige and use it every day and it's no problem. I had the same worries before I collected it "will I be able to live with it every day?" etc.. but I'm loving it - it is a pleasure to drive, and having to do it every day is a treat! Fair enough I've only had it 6 weeks but it just gets better and better and I know I'll not grow tired of it.
My situation sounds like it's the same as yours, I only do a short commute and the other half has a practical company car and it works perfectly! Can't wait for spring to go for a blast over in Europe.

Go on, you know you want to!!

Hi

I'd either go for a 111s/111r S2 or a sports tourer S2, I can understand what the other's are saying but this will make your change to Lotus world a lot more easier to live with, try and get the short roof version as this is also a much easier combination

just go and drive one and see how you get on. Chris at Westover Sports cars was a great help when i started looking. a word of warning, once you've driven one you WILL want one for sure

Thanks for all the advice. I've wanted one for a while, that's the trouble!!

I went to look at a '53 Boxster on Sunday and there was an '04 Elise next to it. The Porsche didn't get a second glance. The Elise just looked so special.

I've just heard things about the roof leaking etc. Are they expensive to service? Is there any problems I should know about the engines etc?

Hi

If your going to spend that sort of money then don't even hesitate buy a Elise 111R. You should be able to get a 2005 car for the same money as a 53 Boxter, the R has the Toyota engine which is the way Lotus are now going these days, test drive one A.s.a.p you'll love it ! The only other thing I could recommend is maybe a Honda powered conversion in an S2/S1 but the choice is yours ?

I think you'd be lucky to get a R for less than 23k, well if you want an Honest one anyway

IIRC the guy took it to a main dealer, who shall remain nameless, who kindly washed the car with the aid of a brillo pad...

IIRC, this guy put it up at this price so that he can shift it quickly, because of the imminent arrival of the 06 Exige. At least thats what I hope, or I've lost a damn sight more than I thought I would for a years motoring

qiuk sell and lowest price 19.500,- slow sell(or reduce in the end?) almost 25.000,-gbp(2004 cars)... there are always some fine priced cars around from people who need cash or other reasons, I mostly buy those cars because I cahnged a lot in the past, and that way you can drive a car almost for nothing when you sell within a year and ask the higher price what also can be a fare price! that way I can pay my hobby "fast" good feeling cars! a bit
I check a lot carprices before I buy...when there's a bargain price for a nice car then you have to act quik...

Buy one.

But unlike the Mazda during the winter you may want to carry.

1. De-icer
2. RAC card
3. Water
4. Screenwash, oil, torch and a warm coat in the boot.
5. Rain-ex one yellow bottle and one black bottle
6. Kitchen role?
7. Bar towel in case it rains and a glo stick in case you happen upon a rave .
8. A sexy looking lady
9. An airforce (militairy) cap

‘O’ yes and there is the spare underpants.

Personally I only carry the spare pants.
