If the old battery isn't completely and utterly dead, consider keeping it as a useful spare. With a set of jump leads it can be helpful for jump starting a car without needing to use another vehicle. I keep an old battery in the workshop and just give it a quick charge every few months.

Yep, local recycling centre got mine yesterday, as it was beyond recharging. They stack em & rack em and every month the green container whizzes em off to be used by some multilaundering wheeze in the guise of entrepreneurialism and everyone's happy. Green? Yep, that's what colour a dollar is meant to be.
Amazing place the laundering , sorry, the recycling yard is. All organised in lots of different sections, for different materials.
