Guys - Just been down to Halfrauds to enquire about a baby seat for the cerb. he guy phoned Recarno and Britax and both said neither of their seats would fit. Please help as I'll be shot if I can't get a seat that fits SAFELY.
Cheers

p.s - another silly question. when accelerating from 2 - 4000 revs the engine makes a noice like a tractor - is that normal?

You shouldnt go above 2.5K revs until 5 miles into warm up.
And not above 3K revs until 10 miles.
The tractor noise should go within a minute or two.
Get a seasoned owner or a good indie to have a listen (ie APM, Austec etc)

Cheers Guys - Gues I need to go to a store that knows what they are talking about -
I've been very carefull not to take it above 2 then 3000 revs until its been properly warmed up. The noice was occuring after an hour of driving. I think the garage may not have screwed the dasboard in properly after removing a laser jamer that was in there as is rattling more than I remember on the test drives

recaro does fit.
I'm not expert on the start, got one with the Cerb and it stays there, but have plenty of Britax seats and over the years you can see quite severe changes in the designs of seats with the same name.
Also on mine the rack for the passenger seat is further forward that the drivers, giving more space for the baby seat, perhaps the passenger seat won't go forward far enough for the seat to fit in this this case?
PetrolTed said:Fair enough, said I didn't know much about Recaro, now Britax's are a different matter!
We bought our new Recaro only about 6 months back and it fits.
In which case go to another Halfords or Mothercare World for the seat, or ask for the manager at the Halfords you've been to already.
You can get them online too - cheaper than Halfords if you're prepared to wait, we got ours within a couple of days a Recaro start-pro. Fits nice and snug, and the baby loves it - in fact I read in a survey somewhere that nine out of ten kids prefer a cerbera than any other car !!
If you look at this thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=180518
there are a couple of photos of mine in the back.
In fact this link shows they have them for 189.99 plus free delivery -

This is where I got mine from, good luck.

Thanks for all your help. I went bacn to Halfords and got a Racaro start Air. To be honest it didn't fit that well - is the pro any different? I managed to leave it back as a. it was a horrible colour and b. they didn't have the safety cushion so I'd have to go back. Do any or you have the bar fitted to your car.

Yep, we've got that. For a 20 month year old it should work fine. Dead secure.
Having looked at boosters I found that physically fitted without me adopting a granning driving positon, so have used a seat belt adjuster and a towel to stop the little one sliding around, she's been very comfortable, but if there a proper solution out there, that'd be ideal...
