heating and ventilation system

Hi floks, During the summer when I bought my Griff, got fed up of being roasted on regular bassis, ventilation system abismal. Heating system now in winter- abismal. Has anyone made any modifications as to improve these, would like to improve it as I have just removed blower motor from rear of NSF headlamp as its stopped working.

Dave - firstly look in the Griffith forums archives with the search facility, there is loads of chat about the heateing & venting. Secondly it is quite common for the hot water valve to become out of position relative to the littleknow and the servo that moves it. This would allow warm water to get past in the summer and prevent really hot water gtting in during the winter! Worth a look! Rich...

Please be sure to let me know if you find an answer. Looks like you have an early precat like mine. I have tried:

Refurbishing all the heater geared motors and micro switches
Replacing the aluminium heat shielding on the bulkheads
Lifting the bonnet up on its catch to allow heat out the back
Fitted an Alloy rad which has been brilliant at controling engine temperature but not cabin temperature. Irony is the cab does not get warm enough in winter now!!
The best thing I have managed to do is get one of those cheap naffy fans that you stick on your dashboard in summer and put it in the drivers footwell. Recirculated hot air feels better for some reason!!!
I also bought some exhaust wrap but keep looking at the job and thinking its just about impossible to do without removing the manifolds. If I did that I would probably have them ceramic coated instead!
I am really tempted to get a copy of the bonnet done and make a modified one with vents in. Only trouble is although I could commision one (We have a chap near my work who could make it)I would need help on the design of the vents. Anyone fancy a challenge?

Hi Folks, have taken both headlamps out and intend to have two fans fitted, one on each side, one will be for ventilation, other for heating purposes, bit like the 500.Shall modify the inside NS inner wing using proper ducting to improve air flow using late blower motors. Will let you know how I get on over the next couple of months or so. Any feedback greatly appreciated. Dave

If you want a Griffith Bonnet I have one with no (oh christ how do I put this) err lugs for the little plastic wheels that supposedly stop the front of the bonnet lifting but dont actually.
Its off the car I wrote off last year. I have no idea why I kept it, sad I suppose.
Anyway, if you want it, dont mind the paintwork being crazed and can collect it from Notts drop me a line.

It's possible to do in situ - although a little tight. Use portions of coathanger wire in 'J' and '7' shapes to hook the wrap from under the manifold and bring it round. Probabaly easier with the wheels off too, although not essential. Took me about 1/2 day a side to do neatly.

Hi BB, how are you supposed to gain entry into heater cavity ? that seems a bit extreeme to me !!! Dave

When i was at Rockingham this year I spotted one Griff with a modified bonnet that had Chimeara style vent slits up each side. Don't know who's it was but it looked very good and in keeping with the Griffs classic lines

Nope not that one, the one i saw was a heavily modified K reg with a diffuser at the rear. I think it was red.
Didn't have the power bulge, just chimp style raised slits. It also had air intake vent grills in the wings front and rear.
