Can anyone help, having had my first 996 experience for the last 5 months of ownership i'm happy with the car but i'm having a few annoying problems still. The standard single CD player stopped working (no power to it at all), I took the car to a local Car Audio & Car Security Specialist who checked the stereo, he couldn't find a problem and sent the stereo away to be checked. Meanwhile I have a Blaupunkt stereo to keep me amused and the car horn beeps once everytime I lock the car as if something is open, which it isn't. Now the alarm goes of a few times every evening and it seems to be getting worse for no apparent reason. I have asked before and a few people thought the car may think it's stereo has been stolen hence the beep. Any more thought's as the alarm has never gone off before.

Also on start up the exhaust sounds like it has a faint rattle, on a 2001 car with 44k on it what is likely to have gone and is it cheaper to get a full exhaust if the cats are on the way out ? Only started doing this today so i can live with it for a while, can't hear it from inside the car and once hot it goes away.

Any bright idea's guy's ?

Had a problem with the horn sounding on mine when I tried to lock the car, the horn sounded once and the doors would'nt lock-turned out to be the nearside door lock. My local OPC put it on their diagnostic lap top which showed no faults, they advised a new lock in that door going off past experience-they were right. Its been on now for three weeks and its been fine.

The problem you had was the Becker system has a wire in the loom which creates a circuit with the alarm. If an aftermarket steroe is fitted this must be sorted or the alarm thinks your stereo has been swiped and will beep on locking just as if a door was open.
