Why....does your small print exclude it?

ian d on these forums got specific track cover for a few days at the ring through egger lawson (competition car insurance). It was pretty pricey, but additional driver (me!!!) was only a bit more. It's done on value, roughly 1% of car's value per day.

remember that the ring is just a german public road unless specifically or implicitly excluded from your policy

it tends to have a higher 'stuff it' factor than most circuits, too; there are numerous reasons why, from lack of run off to high traffic density

also note that egger lawson cover the car, your road policy may or may not cover the third party liability (see exclusion above). Running over a biker who has dropped it could theoretically lead to a personal civil suit against you if you're implicated (loss of earnings etc.).

an organised track day, such as RMA do, could minimise risk and help with liabilities/legalities

Thanks all. Yeah my policy states 'not de-restricted toll roads'.. so the 'ring. And my mates Tesco policy actually says not Nurburgring.

I'll look into the suggestions, my cars only worth £3500 so 1% doesn't work out too bad i guess.

Nice one.

The n'ring is NOT a derestricted toll road. It is restricted in a couple of areas, most noticeably the Adenau entry/exit at Breidscheid corner (50kmh limit). By the letter of their wording, you are still covered, unless they 'implicitly' exclude you by saying it's splitting hairs as most of the ring is derestricted.

For 3.5k, egger lawson would cover you reasonably... it may be more than 1% because of the low value vs admin costs tho'. 10k of cover is about 100 GBP; I imagine their minimum is not far under this. At 3.5k it may be worth risking it under your road policy as not a massive loss if they refuse to pay out. If you want to do a track with far less risk, I'd recommend a trackday at Bedford Autodrome etc. The ring is amazing but it's not a good place to learn car control etc.
