I feel sorry for the drivers - rev up to the heady heights of 4,000, then change!

'Spose it's an engineering challenge and good luck to them but I fear it's time to invest in some ear plugs, although should please the locals as it will sound just like the main route to Le Mans, being as it's usually littered with trucks and tractors...

Won't need ear plugs - the drivers say you can't hear the engine above the wind noise in 3rd gear and above.

Autosport report "The usable power band is unusually low for a racing engine - between 3,000 and 5,000 revs per minute - and the driver will have to change gear less in the R10 than the R8 because of the engine's favourable torque curve."

Mailed this one to my old dad, who says "we did it years ago...". He used to work for Cummins, the company that built this diesel engined race car:

Started from pole position and lead the Indy 500 in 1952 until some tyre debris got sucked into the air intake and ended their race.

Should be interesting to see how they do...

Ian Dawson is planning on being back at Le Mans with a new reformed team call D1 based at Snetterton.

Think they will be using the old Lola B2k/40
