Prodrive unveils P2 concept
Impreza-based and 350bhp/tonne so it's quick
Prodrive is to launch a unique new road car, the P2, at Autosport International next month. The car will be unveiled by Prodrive chairman Dave Richards at the NEC, Birmingham on the opening day of the show, Thursday 12 January.
The two-seater sports car has been developed by the motorsport and automotive technology specialist, which runs the Subaru World Rally and Aston Martin Racing teams, to showcase its innovative technologies and engineering skills and to demonstrate its ability to design and build a unique road car in less than a year.
At its core, P2 uses an Impreza STi engine, transmission and four-wheel drive system. To this, Prodrive has added its own active handling system, ATD, and an engine turbo anti-lag system developed from its Subaru World Rally Cars, helping to give the lightweight car a predicted power-to-weight ratio approaching 350bhp/tonne.
Anti-lag is a system that's been in use in rallying for over a decade. It keeps the turbo spinning by using ignition timing and the dumping of unspent fuel into the exhaust system when the engine is off-throttle. The fuel then ignites in the high temperatures, which spins the turbine, reducing if not eliminating turbo lag. It can also make rather fruity bangs and pops, although more modern systems tend to be quieter.
Styling has been in the hands of Peter Stevens and the entire design, engineering and build of the car has been carried out at Prodrive’s facilities at Banbury and Warwick in the UK.
While there are currently no plans to put the car into production, if it were produced in volume Prodrive expects the car would be priced at approximately £40,000, putting it in its own niche sector.

Like it tho, like it a lot. Better than an Impreza, but without the obligatory Burberry cap (no offence of Impreza drivers!

This will not happen. There is no way that an anti-lag system like this will ever pass our emmisions standards. Shame tho.
But you could have the system ready to go on the car and a 2 penny after market optionnal extra would make it fonctionnal.
As long at it is off at idle speed, it will go through MOT.
But then how many miles is the turbo going to last?

If they were to build it, and it is niche, then they can SVA 200 units of each model type per year without EUIV emissions / EOBD. That is until they change the SVA laws.....
This would given them entry to the UK market at least.
The styling may be bland and a bit ordinary but the mechanicals speak for themselves in leaps and bounds. Most of you that offer critique on the Impreza have likely never ever driven one, so haven't got a bloody clue!! Same with the Misti Evo's, again bland and quite ordinary styling but fantastic mechanicals without a doubt. Everybody is entitled to to their opinions about any subject on the planet, However, Do us a favour... Don't be a muppet, try basing those opinions on fact.
Impreza styling isn't rubbish, just a bit different. The same can be said about some supercars too!!
Thanks... Scoobie

You know what? It really bugs me when people keep rubbishing Impreza's, and commenting about the supposed stigmas attached to these vehicles. I know of drivers aged late 20's to early sixties that love and drive these cars, and are not chavs or anything like it. So, all this business about chavs and burberry is really is a load of old rubbish.

well said..
Have to say, the negative comments nearly put me off from buying one, but after driving it, I was instantly
convinced.
Its been one of the best cars Ive ever owned.
I can heartily recommend it.
vbr CJ.
These day, you can not type cast people because of what they drive. Especially if you're never driven one.
God would it be boring if we all drove the same cars or liked the same thing.

Speaking as an STi owner, I would be the first to admit that the image of the Impreza has been screwed by chav's and boy racers, and I can't believe anyone would be silly enough as to try and argue that it's a pretty car!!
I love the car, it's great to drive (in a brutal, go really fast kind of way), but it's no Porsche or BMW (in a precision and delicacy kind of way), but it certainly doesn't have a good image! I drive cars for the thrill of driving, not for the status/to massage my ego, so, I don't really care (that much
). Matt
