I have at last decided to replace the four spoke air-bagged steering wheel with the proper RS three spoke wheel for the 993 RS - but how do you ensure that the airbag waring light does not permanently come on?

My supplier is currently saying "take the bulb out", but this does not seem a very elegant solution to me. Is there an adapter of some sort that I should be purchasing?

Well - the considered view is that it is easier and more elegant to (i) disconnect the system control unit (situated in front of the centre console), (ii) disable the element that monitors the airbag warning light (do not know how you identify this), and (iii) reconnect the partially disabled control unit.

You can tell I am simply repeating what I have been told - I should see it happen before my very eyes this Saturday if all goes to plan.

N.B. I am told if you do not do step (iii) above, the car will be totally disabled.

Is this really a good idea - to remove the airbag?

I thought it had some, you know, personal safety functionality ...

You are certainly not wrong, but being old enough to have driven cars without airbags for years it's a risk I am prepared to take. Plus, a three-spoke RS wheel is just so gorgeous compared to the airbagged one, you just have to do it.
