Having found difficulty in finding Mobil 1 oil and searched BP's website I find that BP recommend their Visco 7000 Sport 5W/50 for Chimaera and Griffith engines. So, does anyone use this rather than Mobil 1, or are we all supporting the French tosseurs ? Seriously, here in Milton Keynes we are awash with BP garages and without a single Mobil garage, so BP would be an easier choice.... what do you think?

Bigger Halfords are OK for Mobil 1 Motor Sport 15/ 50 (I think) - normal 0/40 that most stock is way to think and if you use car hard will be drinking it like water. Using 15/50 for a few 1000 miles will improve oil consumption and is better for older design rover engine.

You also get a free McLaren GP F1 model car with your Mobil1 at Halfords. Could be useful with Christmas approaching.

Okay, having read through the thread suggested by incorrigible it would appear Mobil 1 isn't that good because it's too thin, and I must admit I got stuck in traffic last night for half an hour and watched the oil pressure slowly drop and I've got Mobil 1 in at the moment. It is due an oil change and service very soon though.

But, there appear a lot of recommendations for Millers fully synthetic oil, which when you check out their website is a 5W/40 oil, not that different from Mobil 1 ...... how can that be ?

Millers do a range, they're all high quality. Isn't Mobil 1 a 0/40

I use the froggy Mobil 1 - 5-50 which I get when on the proverbial booze cruise. Fags wine and Mobil 1 (mucho el cheapo in France). Never had any problems with consumption, but agree you can watch the pressure gauge fall like the FTSE in traffic.

My dear old dad who is a bit of an oil anorak rates Millers above everything, which I have never actually tried but would welcome any feedback on consumption over Mobil 1

thanks for that link, incorridgible, its all perfectly clear now!!! for my tuppen'orth - the dealer where our Chim came from would recommend nothing but Mobil 1, but i have noticed fluctuating pressure especially in warm weather, and after reading most of the above - wonder if something 'thicker' would help...

Just changed the oil & filter (trusty land rover part#ERR3340)in mine yesterday using Mobil 1 15/50 motorsport from Halfords: seems fine. Oil pressure now up to 45psi (as you'd expect) & little fluctuation. Very happy, but a trip to France for 5/50 might help the wallet... next time praps. just 2p. cheers, Tant
