OK, in the interests of getting back to Motoring topics, here are the Autocar top 10 best looking cars:

1. Jag E Type Series 1
2. Lambo Miura
3. Ferrari 250 GT SWB
4. Ferrari 288 GTO
5. Porsche 911
6. Alfa 8C 2900
7. AC Cobra 289
8. Lambo Murcielago
9. Aston DB4 GT Zagato
10. Aston Vanquish

Only one TVR in there, the Griff at 93rd. I would rate the Tuscan higher than the Range Rover, which made it in at 63rd. And, of course, where is the Mini - the style icon of the 60s? But perhaps I'm biased...

Comments?

Edited to say: bugger, spelt the title wrong! Can you fix it Ted?

Not seen the complete run down, so maybe you could enlighten me to the positions of the Lancia Stratos, RS200 and Pagani Zonda - all in my opinion beautiful cars and absolute titans in their field.

Stratos: 29th
RS200 and Zonda - not there!

And the lack of Zonda can't be down to the newness of it - the Enzo is there.

I think the Zonda would be a very 'personal' choice because some see it as a great looker and others don't. I think the Enzo is pig ugly (from the pictures) but its rather subjective isn't it?

hmmm...rather disappointed then!! (any chance of getting a complete rundown of the cars on here at all?)

Its a bit of a subjective list for example the bloody Capri is ahead of cars like Merc 300SLR, Ferraris F50, Enzo,250lm & the porkers 917 & 904, 550 not in the 100 in Autocar!!

Also am I the only petrolheader not to actually like the e type jag in any of its forms?

At least the Ferrari 250GT SWB is at number 3, however it should be number one as im not a Miura fan either

I have to agree with you as well - like the bonnet, not sure about the car as a whole though. (although my taste in cars is extremely subjective!)

Only the later ones, and the hard tops are worst

The MK I rag top is truely a thing of beauty

Agreed the E-Type Coupe is ugly whereas the convertible is gourgeous!

Slightly off topic - who is that remakes/re-conditions E-types. I think Jeremy Clarkson said that their version is his favourite car, ever.

(Really annoying me that I can't remember)

OK not seen the article but sounds absolute nonsense – if it is genuinely about the most beautiful car not influential or sexy (been done that one) or fastest then there is no way a Range Rover should be in there and there is no way the Griffith should be missing! The Griff must rank as one of the best-looking cars in a group of 100 – it won a bloody design council award for heaven’s sake!

All sounds like a load of bollox to me, which is what I have decided most car mag’s have become this last few months – in fact I’d go so far as to say that the editors of car mag’s have completely run out of ideas. So that’s it… there are no more ideas left in the world - all been done. Take a look at EVO and compare it to CAR they are identical EVERY MONTH Merc vs’ BMW shoot outs all over the place, Worlds Top 50 Sexy Cars etc. etc. – now AutoCar is gate crashing the party – they’re all the bloody same!!! All the same words just arranged in a different order Rich…

Where is this list, and how far from the top is the mighty CRX?

I absolutely agree with the #1 spot holder, as I have posted that extact same one on here some where (probably the CTR thread, everything else seems to be in there! ).

I can fully understand that the Mini and the RS200 aren't there. Both found beauty in the eye of the beholder through pure function. while the Mini actually turned out to be very cute, all tiny wheels, big baby eyes and chunky styling and the RS200 one of the most ultimately purposeful looking cars ever built(along with my favourite group 'B' runner the 6R4 Metro). No one with a pare of eyes, or even just one could honestly call them graceful.

...and I fear that is a prerequisite for beauty in the commonly held sense.

Sorry, Issi, I do still love your creation, but she isn't as beautiful as an XK'E'.

Try looking up Viarage, They used to do "better than factory resorations" years ago. I don't know if they are still around, but they would build you pretty much any Jag to any spec.

Have a surf, If they still exist they must have a site.

whatever

My sentiments exactly, though I would substitute the word "ugly" with "just plain stupid looking".

Incidentally, the Discovery H+L "A car is re-born" programme covered the full restoration of a convertible e-type. Final cost: 85 big ones. Puts the cost of the Eagle into persepective, especially when adding in labour.

There was a recent article in evo (I think) on the top 50 "sexiest" looking cars. Tuscan and Griff were both in there. I was a bit disappointed no to find the cerb, but then I got thinking. Although I'd rate it in a "best" looking list, would it be "sexy"?

I haven't seen their listing yet either but just by reading the comments on here I get the impression that it might has well have been written on toilet roll.
Range Rovers more pleasing than TVR's, Griff's etc....hmmm personally I'm not sold.
