Some people are too stupid to own computers.

They just are.... I'm on a support call at the moment with a man who is far more suited to the traditional pen and paper approach. It's like pulling
teeth
eg: We're connecting it to the network. "Do I need to plug the network cable in now"?
He rang yesterday trying to get it connected to his office LAN..... From home

Not as hard as trying to get people to understand upload/download differeces with ADSL over leased/SDSL...
No matter how you say it, they never understand it...

It's even more fun when you have a language barrier with some customers... :sigh:
How on earth did you know he was Welsh?
"...so with this broadband thingy, can I use the phone?"
"..My screen is blank.."
"..er is it turned on?"
"oh wait, now it is..."

A frequent one for me:
User (usually the same one each time: "Hi, My monitor has stopped working?"
Me: "Ok, have you checked it's plugged in and turned on?" (meanwhile I'm checking that the machines turned on my remoting into it)
User: "Yes, I've checked all the plugs and its definitly plugged in"
Me: "You sure? If I have to come down and plug it in - you'll look silly..."
User: "Nope it definitly broken"
Me: "Fine"
Off I trot, I walk straight in, under the desk, push the cables together properly where the cleaner has knocked it with their vacuum cleaner, and then wander off, muttering...
User: "oh, thats wierd!"
Sheesh - happens two or three times a month...
Also done the same thing with a director, who called me out to his house an hour away to find that he'd unplugged his router, and that was why it wasn't connecting...

'Now you are SURE you've logged in right?'
'Yes definitely'
Or the classic where a secretary was annoyed that she couldn't get her printer to print addresses within labels, on an A4 sheet of labels. She just wasn't putting the labels into the tray square. Feckwit!
I've had quite a few people ring and state the floppy drive won't give back their floppy (this is in 5 1/4" days).
Go to machine. They're correct, no sign of floppy. Open up machine. Find up to 20 of them in the case from them not looking, and pushing them through the crack below the drive....

It's all gobbledegook to me, I think I'll just moan about it on PH and never actually fix it.
Thanks for your help.

Sounds reasonable to me

Used to work for a very-arse backup software company in tech support
"my tape drive isn't working"...
'Well we're a software company, what fault is it of ours?'
"Well if you don't get it to work I'll return the software"
'Fine, have you checked the SCSI cable is plugged in to the server?'

Had a good one about a month back. Guy purchases a computer from a local auction, phones up to say the CD drive will not give the disk back, but trying to install windows XP from CD, so go through usual procedure of entering bios.. cannot find it..
Puzzled I ask him to bring it in to be looked at and find its a on old AT with 5 1/4 floppy drives !!

Ah, but knowledge is a dangerous thing. I have a call waiting in my group this week with a description thus:
User had virus warning, has formatted his harddrive and now the Pc won't boot into windows.
Honestly... I'd laugh if this wasn't going to cost his comapny about £k in labour.
Then you get the ones who dispute things when we bill them. We sent one client a £1.5k bill for 30 hours work recovering a knackered SATA drive. The manager there "can't remember the problem". Err, remember that few days last week when your whole business ground to a standstill while we recovered your disk because you're too lazy to change the backup tape every day and haven't had a proper backup completed since september.... that'll be the one.

We had a call that a networked printer wasn't working, which in investigation turned out because they'd unplugged the printer power supply and put it in a cupboard "because it was untidy".
What's more upsetting is that my "customers" are other IT staff now, and the quality of the calls isn't much better.
