Memory card not recognised by photo shop equipment

Hi folks,

I recently bought 256 xD Picture card for my Fuji camera from Crucial Technology and found their service to be excellent. Next day delivery, good replies to queries etc.

A problem I have is that the card is not recognised by two different photo processors equipment. We have tried the card in Tesco, Boots and Jessops but only Jessops machine would recognise and process the card and provide a print.

I was careful to format the card before use as instructed and though the card is labelled Olympus, I was assured that the card is compatible with the Fuji xD as it is the same system.

The card works fine in the Fuji camera, transfers the pix to my PC and also enables me to burn to CD and print from that.

I am now told that I would have the same problem with these machines wherever I bought the card but we have another xD Picture card labelled Fuji and that works in all machines.

Anyone else had this problem or know the solution. Jessops photo shop is 20 miles from me. Kinda off my route.

There must be some subtle difference between Olympus and Fuji. I use Olympus xD and I know that pukka Olympus cards support panoramic mode but others don't.

Suggest you swap it for a Fuji branded card?

Looks as if that is what I must do. Crucial FAQ assureded me that the xD Olympus cards work in the camera which is true. It's just that they don't seem to work in every photo machine.

I wonder how the photo machine "knows" that the Olympus card has been used in a Fuji camera?

As an experiment...

Copy the pictures off onto you computer.
Format the card, from your computer.
Copy the pictures back.
Try it in the machine.

Maybe something to do with directory structure?
