I'm thinking of buying a new car in the US but the dealer does not offer export facilities...

How does one got about exporting...What's the deal claiming back sales tax...I know about the duty, vat and SVA this side, it's just the state-side stuff I need info on..

See if you can track down vetteheadracer (Nigel) for advice as he's done it a few times, more likely to find him on the CCCUK forum.

its very difficult to buy brand new direct from a dealearship in most states, by law/agreeement they arent allowed to sell unless you have a US postal address.

There are ways around this like, getting a US friend to purchase for you, I beleive that is what VHR has done in the past. Not sure if the same law applies to used vehicles

what car are you after ?

I suppose the other question I should ask is things like warranty & factory recalls....

if GM is like Dodge, factory warranty and recalls are void as soon as the car leaves the US

American Carriage Co should have one in by now and they're giving 3 years warranty.

If you want anything new from the US I can give you details of the guy I use. He buys the car then transfers ownership to you, you cannot walk into a US dealership and buy a new car unless you have an american postal address.
The advantages of doing this is you can save a bit of money on the duty and VAT as the car is secondhand and therefore not worth the full invoice price, I usually have an invoice for about $5,000 under the price paid new.
As Viper explained once the car leaves the US then GM will not warrant the car or do any recall stuff, however with the new C6 according to Stratstones they would be happy to carry out servicing and repairs on C5/C6 Corvettes. Unlikely they will do warranty work on non-UK supplied cars though.
Importing is very easy if you follow the simple rules and it is made so much easier using someone in the US to do that end of the deal. for example when I brought in my Rumblebee truck last year I didn't see it until I went to collect it in Liverpool!
If you want the full story p.m. me with your phone number and I will call you for a chat.
