There seems to be plenty of (media?) competition to the GTR. Noble are releasing their upgraded version for £40k - 3.2sec 0-60 - and the new MG is £60k ish.

The GTR doesn't seem to feature in these articles as it is considered a kit car(!) by many of the press.

By those who KNOW, how does the GTR really compare to these. My kit alone is way over the Noble and is looking closer to the MG upon completion. It is ready for delivery and, naturally, I am having a few last minute nerves!

No Bull if you please

MG starts at around £65k goes up to over £100k for the 900+bhp nitros fitted monster.

Noble starts at £48k and goes to over £60k for Top one.

I must admit I do agree that the Ultima doesn't get enough publicity as I don't think even the top spec of the cars above will outperform a £60k Ultima.

However its taken Lee Noble many years and many different cars to succeed in getting this level of publicity so it doesn't happen over night or by accident.

I think the "just" in your statment is unreasonable.

It's also not donor based and as such is identical to both the noble and the MG (both use other manufacturers engines etc.), only difference is that the Ultima factory offer you the choice to build it yourself.

I am unlikely to ever afford an Ultima (or Noble or MG)unfortunately, but the 'kit car' part would be an *attraction* to me...

Give me a 'gift voucher' redeemable against a complete Noble, or Ultima kit/parts to the same value, and you'll see me clearing the garage an pulling out my socket set!

Cheers, Phil

I feel the point is dont compare pears with oranges. I made an ultima because 1)I didnt think I could, 2)it was a great "bonding" exercise with my son, and 3)it gives me a great escape to my garage with a beer for a "girly free zone"! to tweek and tune. Any rich bas$%£d can buy anything - but ...if you build an ultima you are one of a few (slightly nuts I admit) guys who proved they could. And it looks cool and not just a bag of bolts like some so called kits! Calling an Ultima a "kit car" is like calling the QE2 just a ferry!

Relax all the nerves about your choice will go away when you drive it for the first time. Trsut me it is the fastest thing on the road this side of £100.000. and when you do come across Italian exotica they have never in my first year of ownership wanted to play. (must be the flames comming out of the back me thinks )

Another point people never talk about is how much it cost to actually run Ferrari, Diablo or Mclaren. I'm not talking petrol but clutches, brakes, windscreens, side mirrors.

I have a feeling you have not been for a test drive with Ted.
Thoughts of MG's or Nobels would never even enter your head if you had.
I still wake from my day dreams in a cold sweat and my test drive was 5 weeks ago.

Yeah...my test drive with young Ted, we spotted a Noble on test....and guess what, he (Noble) didnt want to play. Personally from a current car designers point of view (this is mine and no one elses influence) i picked the Ultima for the following reasons

1/ Race proven
2/ Engineering quality
3/ Unique factor (who else do you know who has one ?)
4/ Performance VS £ value
5/ Looks to die for
6/ Make it myself and truly understand the car

No other car can give you that combination

Thank you oh knowledgable one's. I'm sure you are absolutely right - I apologise now for even doubting my decision!?#

I did go on a test drive with Ted some time ago and it has been some time since I went with Paul. At that point, I did consider the passenger department was lacking an appropriate FM handle - a "F*%k ME!" handle for those who have not come accross this highly technical term.

Due to this time delay, you begin to think "for £60k there are lots of options". I feel more rested that I am making the right decision!

Cheers guys, and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Sieze....Valid point about the exotica Italiano

I have been in the Automotive trade all my working life and have found the reliability of F****is, Lambo's, Mazzies etc to be wanting somewhat ( i wont even mention the F word in my house) damn things made of Coke can thickness material...bahhh, put together by drunken Tiffosi ...eeek did i just say that...hehe. Lambo's are nice, still too darn unreliable tho. Give me a Britt musclecar any day of the week, you probably guessed by now i have to admit a soft spot for our friends at Newport Pagnel but i cant afford one, so im out to beat them with an Ultima (im still weeping about the 5 Ultima GTR's they crushed early this year) after the development for the new 2 seater AM305 car.....b'stards.

Doz...that little Alloy foot plate is the only FM device fitted, if used correctly it is a powerful anti panic plate (i think Ted needs to re-enforce that area on the test cars)
Just hoof down those 6 points, tie em in tight....and scare the living crap out of your passenger, but i agree a FM device, a PH (panic handle) would be rather fun
My wife is refusing to get into the car when its finished....muttered something about...never in a million years.....scared me enough in a Vanquish let alone in that thing...spit.. blah.. blah...cant get on his Duke...blah blah....all i want is a Boxster...moan moan....or an SLK....yawn

Jeez WOMEN...who understands them eh ??

DOZ - It sounds to me like I may need to make another trip up the A32 to Alton. As I remember, the last little trip out we had, had comments like
"....... this blows my mates F40 into the weeds ...."
"....fcuking hell ......."
"......we're all going to die ......"
"......Jesus, I need one of these ....."

Maybe not accurate word for word, but you get the drift. If the weather is OK this weekend I need a blast out!

I gave a passenger ride to a fellow PH'er at Folembray a couple of months ago. Other than screaming from the moment we left the pit lane until we had negotiated the second corner (after which point he realised that the car did have decent brakes, and really could go round corners that fast), he made similar comments about the impressive nature of the Ultima

I think that part of it has got to do with the fact that your arse is 3 inchae from the track, and you can see the road coming up to meet your nose at immense speed. That tends to focus the passengers mind wonderfully
