just had a thought, when we all have to register for an ID card, gypsies, pikeys, travellers and the like will be exempt by virtue of the fact they are of "no fixed abode" and keep moving all over the place, as such they are untraceable right?, therefore if one group of People don't have to register then neither do I or it's classed as discrimination, is this am I correct in thinking this?

RFID.

Implant a chip in them and the government will be able to follow them everywhere.

Maybe they'll have a special one that still identifies then just doesn't have a fixed address.
They'll find a way around everything to ensure everyone has to have one.
I will certainly not be impressed if people on the dole are expemt from paying for theirs though.

agreed Lois, but after all those People in the jobcentre had their ID nicked it doesn't inspire confidence in any Government database either does it!

They will be exempt, benefits are supposed to be 'minimum liveable wage' so things like this are above and beyond that.

What they don't seem to appreciate is a hell of a lot of us working stiffs have less spare cash than dolies...

It doesn’t really matter that they don’t have a fixed address. IMO, the problem will be collecting the information from these people in the first place. As for people on social security or job seekers (does the dole still exist?) they’ll be dead easy to find to collect the information on giro day (well unless they have it put directly into their bank accounts).

I still don’t see what is actually gained from this scheme (apart from awarding lucrative contracts to *specially selected IT companies).

Indeed, there will be an awful lot of people named 'Patrick Murphy' on the database.

No offence intended to anyone actually called Patrick Murphy (unless you're a thieving pikey b*****d)

I always thought that "Pikey" was a derogatory term for Romany Gypsies. There are no Irish Romany Gypsies.

If you are going to insult classes of people, get your insults right please.

Anyone who roams the turnpikes AFAIK Eric, a traveller.

Maybe in more recent times but my understanding was that it originally referred to Gypsies.

Anyway, I hate all "group insulting" - no matter what the group is called. Could we refrain from it here a bit, I wonder?

And I hate the idea of ID cards too.

A slight digression to the thread but:

Why is it that local councils around the country are being called upon to find 'PERMANENT' sites for these 'travellers'?

and

Why in gods name are we then paying for them to have a nice toilet block, electric hook up points, fresh supplies of free water etc etc - Im sure theres more we dont know about too

Whatever they like but they shouldn't expect everyone else to fund it?

Maybe it's all a trap to lure them into thinly disguised concentration camps where they will then be gassed.

After all they are the ones Hitler started off with, not that I would ever compare the current British government with the Nazi's....

Generalisation is good

Incorrigible - I have no problem calling convicted criminals "criminals". However, I do have a problem with assuming everyone in a particular social class or ethnic group is somehow "lesser" than you or even me!

You have a point there but they do seem to provide an easy sterotype.
